Well, in a group setting it seems less threatening. However, that depends on the group you're with. If you are at a party, you can have a casual friendly conversation and get their number without the pressure of "the come on" or "the date" that you would have if you walked up to someone on the street and asked for their number. On the other hand, if a group of people walk into say a mall and they see a pretty girl...it's probably not a great idea to get her number when your "group" is surrounding her waiting for her answer. If that situation arises, you might want to separate yourself from the group for a little while and walk over to her and tell her you think she's pretty and give her your number and ask that she call you sometime and go for a coffee or an ice cream/movie/whatever. Or find an upcoming event and tell her that you are going and if she would like to go, perhaps she might give you a call, because you would love for her to join you.

A girl who is IN a group? Or if I'M in a group? I like to meet people personally, w/o all their friends telling them what to say.
