The baby is still small and has a lot of room to kick in so you won't feel every kick. Check the books, but I don't think it's important to feel every movement yet. I am overweight, I have a 2 1/2 year old daughter, and I felt her kick starting around Week 18 and by Week 20 it was all the time. I am pregnant with my 2nd (9 weeks). Being overweight didn't affect my pregnancy.

Well being overweight doesn't necessarily mean you won't be able to feel the baby move in early pregnancy.
Babies actually start making spontaneous movements around the 7th week. Their arms and legs are so tiny that the movement may not be apparent until much later. Also like someone has already said, if your busy most of the day you may miss the movements. Sometimes they may even do most of the moving when your asleep at night. A woman who is very slender or has had a baby before may feel the movement more so than others. There's actually alot of factors you can take into consideration when it comes to feeling movements.
When you are closer to your 22nd week and your not feeling movement daily, then I would definitely be concerned.
I would say that you are probably okay but it never hurts to notify the doctor and have them re-assure you in whatever way they can.

That sounds about right, At 18 weeks the baby still has lots of room, and if this is your first your lucky you felt it at 17 weeks. Some people can't feel it to further along. But Ya when I was 17 weeks I would feel the baby every now and then, but now being 22 weeks I feel him more often! :) Just because you can't feel him he or she, is still moving around in there!:) CONGRATS!!! God Bless

When I was around week 17, I want to say I could only feel something if I was laying down and put my hand on my belly. I couldn't feel much movement while standing/sitting until later. I'm sure your baby is just fine!

Sometimes you just don't realize the baby is kicking because your busy and not paying attention. The movement of the baby won't be as noticable since the baby has lots of room to move.

completely normal. you probably won't feel it every day until you are about 20 weeks. From there on out it will only get stronger and stronger.
