I guess you can pronounce it any way that you like.... However, the correct announciation would be "lay"! Just think of the word neighbor.... E before I is pronounced as an A. (If you are naming a child this, I would consider that because while going to school this could truly suck!
Leah would be a way to spell Lee...
My name is Lisa and my family calls me Lee.
But Lei is truly "lay".

My best friend for high school had that as a middle name. She hated it, and didn't want anyone to know. Her perents wanted a boy and was going to name him Lee, but since she was a girl, she got Lei as a middle name!
