My 2003 black Eclipse has fading/chipping paint and clear coat. I noticed a lot of others have the same issue. Has anyone had any resolve from the dealerships or corporate? If so, what actions did you take?

Otherwise, what about a class action lawsuit from all of us people suffering with this problem against Mitsubishi Motors of America? Anyone interested on getting in on a class action lawsuit, please feel free to contact me at phrnicek@yahoo.com.

I have also contacted a couple local media outlets this week, in Omaha, NE, to bring attention to this problem.

Thanks.

Some manufacturers have a "quiet" warranty where if you take the car in and complain, they may cover it at no charge although they are not legally required to....it's a "customer loyalty or goodwill" policy that some have and may also be an agreement they have to avoid a recall. I would take it to a Mitsu dealer bodyshop and see if they can do anything for you---possibly talk to an area service rep for the Mitsu dealers or customer service number for the region....otherwise class action is the only way to go or call the NHTSA and check on any pending lawsuits or recalls against them for this problem. GM, Chrysler and Ford had a similiar problem with peeling clearcoat from a common supplier to them back in the late 80's and early 90's that they extended the warranty on by agreement with the NHTSA to avoid a recall but people didn't know about it unless they complained---pretty shady deal for the average guy who may have lost a couple thousand in value of the vehicle if he had only complained enough to get it fixed.

Well, that's pretty normal, well known problem. They use a poor coating of paint on those cars, and by now it's out of warranty. You would have had better luck taking it in shortly before the warranty was up and making them repaint it, but now I don't think you'll get very far by filling a lawsuit. You're better of spending that money getting a real paint job.
