Sounds like someone didn't want to hear the truth and reported you...tsk tsk...when will people learn to accept criticism as helpful advice so we can all avoid the unnecessary violations.

Yeah, I've had that happen to me as well. Obviously the asker has turned you in for a violation, because probably no one else cares if you try to make them seem less of an idiot.
Generally, I just refuse to answer those questions because I know that I wouldn't be able to resist commenting on their bad spelling or grammar.
Don't even bother trying to appeal it. Somehow the answer you gave IS considered a violation, although I don't remember the specifics from my situation.
This whole "answers" thing is a total joke sometimes.

The person you were telling to learn how to spell probably violated you, some people just can't take any kind of criticism even when it's constructive!! It's not fair but around here a lot of things aren't!!

LOL! Oh hey! I got a violation for the same exact thing!! This person claimed they went to a catholic school and it was a pain trying to understand half of what he or she was saying, so I said something to the effect of, "Let this be a lesson to all parents, DON'T send your kids to a catholic school and I mentioned the atrocious spelling....next minute, HELLO! A violation notice....pfft!
Btw, no...it's not fair, it's Y! A.

I think that was funny. Not fair. Just stating the obvious. There is a check spelling thing on here. Some people should use it.
Going crazy be back in an hour...

I got one because they asked why people who cry sometimes look like they are laughing. Their avatar had what looked like a girl laughing, but it was small. I asked if her avatar was crying, stating I couldn't tell because it was so small. How is that a violation, especially with the question she asked? Someone else made a similar remark as mine and their question was removed as well.
What really gets me is that this girl tries to act like she is all sweet and nice in the things she says about herself in her profile.

Yes...I think you should get three more. This is Yahoo answers, not spelling class. I find it annoying when people point out spelling mistakes in an answer. If you could not understand the question, then just move on to the next and stop being a point whore.

I UNDERSTAND.... I GOT A VIOLATION NOTICE ALSO . I SOMETIMES GET INTO A HURRY AND SPELL WORDS WRONG. I DO NOT HAVE PATIENCE FOR SOME THINGS AND WHAT I DO NOW IS IF THE FIRST FEW WORDS ARE SPELLED WRONG I STAY AWAY FROM ANSWERING OF THE QUESTION. THAT WAY I DO NOT GET INTO TROBLE WITH THE YAHOO COPS. I FIND A LOT OF QUESTIONS THAT TEND NOT TO MAKE SENSE. SOMETIMES WE INTELLIGENT PEOPLE DO GET INTO TROUBLE FOR OUR TYPE A PERSONALITIES. SURE HOPE IT WAS NOT ME THAT GOT YOU INTO TROUBLE. HOPE I DO NOT GET INTO TROUBLE BUT HERE GOES NOTHING

If that's all you answered, then yes, that was fair because it's not an answer. If you actually gave an answer and left that comment, some people do get offended by "learn how to spell".

I got one too when I first started. The question was all 'dis' and 'dat's AnD gOOfy WriTinG with *terrible* spelling and punctuation...so I answered it in the same manner and got violated.
I *truly* believe that when someone makes a spectacle of their stupidity, they deserve what they get.
