I wanna sign up for this accent softening class, but can really get rid of my regional accent? (pls. don't say stuff like I should care about who i am rather than what accent i have, I've had enough of these talks.)

Voice and speech classes do work (though I have never heard them called "accent softening classes- this would make me alittle nervous about the quality of this particular class). A good class will teach you to recognize your regionalisms so that you can use them when you wish to, and not use them when you don't. Having control over your instrument is not negative- it does not change who you are, or make you generic (as I expect those people who have given you 'talks' have said)- it only gives you a choice in how you wish to present yourself. And a good class will give you more control over all dialects, as you will learn how to use phonetics and make substitutions as you need to for different shows. Go for it, and be patient- depending on your "ear" it may take a while to click. Good Luck!

Try recording your voice and listening to the recording. You will hear how your vowels and consonants differ from the way you wan to speak, and will be more able to modify them.

Listen to some other regional accents. Notice the different vowel sounds. I'm from the north and would call the capital city "Loondun"; but my husband, who was born there, calls it "Landen"

And if you think the classes will help; why not? It all depends on how good the teacher is at conveying their knowlege in a way you can use.

My dad took a class to get rid of an accent for business reasons. It did work, and it wasn't an excruciating amount of time or effort, either.

Go for it, if you want. You're not pretending to be someone else, you're just expanding your appeal. :D

a really good voice and diction teacher should be able to train you to speak General American Dialect, that which most of us speak within 12-18 weeks.

I have to ask why, what do you want to do? And why do you think your accent's wrong?
