That is whenever a protein/enzyme is heated or otherwise made to lose it's shape. Whenever that happens, the protein/enzyme loses it's original ability.

This is simply when a protein/DNA, enzyme and such become inactive. Denaturation occurs under cruel conditions...like when you add any chemical that may "ruin" an enzyme it denatures. It basically means its structure will change meaning that whatever function this enzyme is supposed to perform, it won't now because it's denatured.

Denaturation is the alteration of a protein or nucleic acid's shape through some form of external stress (for example, by applying heat, acid or alkali), in such a way that it will no longer be able to carry out its cellular function. In biology, the shape and form of biological compounds such as proteins critically determine the function of the protein. Under stress, the shape and form (protein structure and protein folding) of the protein warp, and the protein changes (denatures) due to its inability to retain its old shape.

Ethyl alcohol for medicinal uses is often "denatured" by adding a small amount of a very unpleasant tasting chemical. This prevents medical people from drinking the alcohol.
