If the scorch marks are on the iron try this: place several spoonsful of salt on a soft cloth. Lay it on the ironing board. Turn the iron on to the cotton setting (no steam!) and iron over the salt until the scorch marks disappear. When the iron cools, wipe the sole plate with a damp cloth. If you have scorch marks on an item of clothing, try soaking the stain with lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide and placing the garment in the sun. Obviously, the garment should be washable and colorfast if you do this.

Scorch marks are rarely fixable. Try rinsing the item in cold water. Work detergent into stain. Rinse. Bleach might remove the stain, but assuming the fabric is not white, would likely ruin your clothes. You may also want to try cleaning the stain with dry-cleaning solvent or sponging the area with 3% hydrogen peroxide. Unfortunately, this stain may be impossible to remove. If the fabric is delicate, such as rayon or acetate and the iron was set too high, you may have melted the fibers, in which case it can not be fixed.Good luck!:)

Usually a terry cloth towel will remove most marks, but for those tough ones, an SOS pad (dry) used on a hot iron will clean most anything off. Just be sure you don't get burned doing it and wipe with a clean cloth before the iron cools.

if the scorch marks are on the iron ( if that's what you're talking about), try putting regular salt on a piece of newspaper and rubbing the iron to and fro on the salt as if you were sanding, it also wouldn't hurt to warm the iron up a bit. When fabric is scorched, it's actually like trying to revive scorched hair. "NADA"

Vinegar, run it threw you iron. Iron on steam a towel and that should take care of most of iron built up. I personally would suggest you use a Q-tip to unglog each little steam vent. So not use on clothing until you can expend steam and it is not discoloured.
I have really hard water (won't even drink it) so I use paid or disstilled water for my work clothes and for my jeans--well I can't be bothered.

um, rust (the cause of the scorch marks) is a chemical change to the iron. Therefore it just can't 'go away', but you could try scraping it or something to at least even it out...

You can remove the portion of the fabric that has the scorch marks, but that's probably not the answer you are looking for!
