I still don't think this is anything like 1978. In 1978 there was no ALDS, and you just had the AL West and the AL East. If you didn't win the division, you were done.
So . . . don't be terribly surprised if the Red Sox get out of their funk by the time the playoffs start, and start playing for real in the ALDS? At least that saving chance is still there, unlike in the pres-Divisional Series era. Provided the Yankees do win the AL East, the Tigers and Mariners aren't going to come close to getting the wild card.
In any event, the Red Sox REALLY need to find ways to ditch JD Drew, Manny Ramirez and Eric Gagne in the offseason.

Well the red sox are on the road of a chock but not yet they still have 1.5 game lead against the Yankees ,but what the Yankees have done is amazing they dint give up and Had such a great determination to win and not get down love them

Im a huge Yankee Fan.. But I still think the ALCS when the Yanks dropped a 3-0 lead is still a bigger choke than the Red Sox dropping 14 and a half games.

Well first off, we haven't won anything yet. So I really don't see where anyone choked....
I guess the way I look at it....the Yanks played some incredible ball to get to this point.....a lot of people, my self included, were really starting to write them off in May....
These guys have really stepped up and played a pretty good chunk of the season at "play-off" level.....and at least made it interesting......
Nobody choked...we played great ball....!!!!!!!

Yanks have proven they're one of the best regular season teams but in the playoffs the bigger question should be what have you done for me lately??? I think another yankees demise by the Angels is looming, but you never know.

It's easy to hate the Yankees just because they know how to win whether you like them or hate them but jealousy will get you nowhere. Go Yankees!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want your team to be a winner, maybe your owner should get some better players & pay more.
