I'm wondering if I can go out and buy another WRT54G router and hook it up in an adjacent room as a bridge to extend my wireless connection. I know there are range extenders and other things of the such out there, but I want to do this with these routers if possible. (They are cheap here!)

Has anyone done this?

Check the manual for the WRT54G router. (It should be on CD, or check their website.)

I'm pretty sure that model has a "bridge" setting that is used specifically for this purpose. You'll need to configure the bridging, MAC access (if you're using that), etc., but it should be pretty straight-forward.

Actually, you can connect just as the answer above. You can also download DD-WRT software for the WRT54G and connect both of them wirelessly using WDS (wireless distrubtion system) that way you can actually ROAM between them! Won't matter which ever is stronger you will auto switch just like with a cell phone. Kind of a nice feature. That software also includes several other improvements for you.

Yes. If not with a wireless connection then at least with a wired one. Any wirelress router can split a standard DCHP internet connection and your first wireless router will create four of them. You can take a network cable from one to the other and it should work fine.
