In mineralogy, luster is not described as high, it is described as vitreous (glassy), metallic, earthy, and other descriptive terms. Both metallic and vitreous minerals are shiny, if that's what you mean. Minerals with a metallic luster include galena, pyrite and cuprite. There are many minerals with a vitreous luster. Some of them are muscovite mica, biotite mica, microcline, albite, hornblende, and quartz.

This is not really an astronomy questions, but, since you asked... The anthropologist (who supposedly saw the event) was Vic Turner (in 1976). The event that you describe is taken from the story as told by Edith. In her original recounting (1985), only a tooth is said to have emerged (no glob or cloud). The article you send us to is a recounting of the recounting, that comes a dozen years later. It is very possible that she actually did see something during a reenactment of the ritual and that her mind interpreted this something in the context of her beliefs related to the ritual. I remember when many people were taken in (at roughly the same period) by people who claimed to remove tumors from human bodies using only their hands and leaving no scars on the body. They have all turned out to be fake. Having a foreign object inside your body is nothing new. Having this object cause problems is nothing new. Having this object move around and casing different problems at different times is nothing new. (This is the reason, for example, that you have to be careful about picking up broken glass). To have that object finally reach a place, near the skin, where it can finally be removed is also nothing new. To wow the watching crowd with special effects as one removes the object would also be nothing new.
