The stumbling block for you is to translate this into 'what do i have to divide 12 by to get 10.3' If you are unfamiliar with cross multiplication or other algebraic maniplulations, try it out with easy numbers..eg what do I have to divide 10 by to get 2..(or 2=10/b) If you know multiplication the answer '5' just pops up.(you divided 10 by 5) So the answer to what do you have to divide twelve by simply becomes b=12/10.3. Try probs like these with various simple numbers to which you know the answer and then you can 'discover' the rule for finding the unknown.

The terms of this problem can be re-arranged to make things easier.

Since 10.3 = 12/b, we can also say b = 12/10.3

To explain this transformation, just multiply each side of the equation by 'b' and divide each side by 10.3; you'll see it works.

Since 'b' is now the subject of a purely numeric expression, it's simple. b = 1.1650485437 to 10 d.p.

I hope this helps, but please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like me to go into this any further.

10.3 x 12 = b

Your aim it to get 'b' 'on top' and on it's own.

Multiply both sides by 'b':
10.3 b = 12

Divide both sides by 10.3:
b = 12/10.3

Life is sweet.

Edit:
Boo. I am the slow king of maths.

well, Ms. Peach, you just multiply both sides by "b" and then divide both sides by "10.3", then you have b = 12/10.3, which takes a jiffy on your calculator.

multiply b on both sides:
b(10.3)=(12/b)b
now the b's on the right cancel out:
10.3b=12

b=12/10.3=1.165

eliminate decimal by multiplying with 10

10.3 = 12/b

multiply with 10

103 = 120/b

multiply with b

103 b = 120

divide by 103

b = 120/103

= 1 17/103

some thing is amiss. in case you're at point fifty one you may have 34 stat factors in case you're at point fifty 4 you may have 36 stat factors there's no thank you to have 35 stat factors with the policies you provide. stages fifty two and fifty 3 do no longer do it.
