Ill show you how to do it easy steps rather than just showing the equations:
5x - 2(x-3) = 7
So will deal with the brackets bit first -everything in the brackets is multiplied by the number 2, so
2(x-3) is 2*x - 2*3 or 2x - 6
Now put that back where the brackets were to give
5x - (2x - 6) = 7
OK now we want to remove the brackets and add all the common bits together (like the x's and if there are numbers indise and outside the brackets)
So 5x - 2x - (-6) or 3x + 6 = 7 (remember that takeing a minus awy is like adding the number)
Right so now we have a simpler equation:
3x + 6 = 7
Now what we want to do is to get rid of the 6 from the left hand side and we can do that by taking 6 away from it, but remember if we do that then we have to do the same to the other side to stillmake it equal
3x + 6 - 6 = 7 - 6
Which is:
3x = 1
Now we want to make a single x, and to do that we can divide both sides by 3 (what we do to one side we have to do to the other when adding, multiplying etc numbers - anything apart from makingt the brackets simpler really we do to both sides)
x = 1/3
Dont know if that helps

x = 1/3
You distribute the -2 through the parens so you get 5x-2x+6=7. (it is +6 because the -2 and -3 cancel each other out and it becomes positive). You then simplify the equation to read 3x+6=7, which is further simplified when you move the 6 over to become 3x=1. Divide both sides by 3 and you get x=1/3.

5x-2(x-3)=7
5x-2x+6=7 Multiply -2 to (x-3) so u get -2x+6
3x+6=7 Combine the like terms to get 3x
3x=1 Subtract the 6 from 7
x=1/3 Divide by 3 to get this

distribute the 2 first:
5x-2x+6=7
now combine like terms:
3x+6=7
solve for x:
3x=1
x=1/3

Firstly, you should multiply out from the brackets. This leaves
5x-2x+6 = 7
This means that 3x+6 = 7
Re-arranging the terms gives us
3x = 7-6
which, of course, means
3x = 1
Now all we need to do is to divide each side by 3, and we finish with
x=1/3 (x=0.333333333.........).
I hope this helps, but please feel free to drop me a line if you'd like me to go into this in greater detail.

First you multiply the 2 by what is in the parenthesis. Look at it like this:
5x -2x +6 = 7
Go from there, it might be easier.
