You could have conveyed your opinion a lot more succinctly by just saying "Mozart was better because his music was simpler and easy to listen to." I don't think you are going to convince many people with that argument, however. As has been mentioned, there is no objective way to compare the two. I won't go as far as to say there is no merit in discussing it, as there is an opportunity to open yourself up to new avenues of thought. I don't think any serious classical music lover prefers Beethoven because he was deaf. Perhaps the general public would be swayed by such things. Beethoven's music was written in an age when people were starting to rethink the meaning of art - great thinkers such as Goethe, whom Beethoven read avidly. Who was it that said, "Art is at its best when it has something to say.". This is what Beethoven believed, and what comes through in his music. I don't think Mozart thought of his own music in quite the same way, except in some of his later works (like Symphony No.40 & 41 and operas like Don Giovanni) perhaps. There are some on the opposite end of the spectrum who say that Mozart's music was pretty nothings with little artistic value - not an opinion I share. Mozart taps into the musical subconscious of humankind in ways that are matched by no other - not even Beethoven in my opinion. His music is just right. You can enjoy it in the same way as watching a sunset or beautiful coastal vista. This is one reason his music has endured and is still enjoyed by people around the world. Beethoven, in my opinion, goes one step further. His music has something to say about what it is to be a living, struggling human being. This is not for everyone, for in accomplishing this one must sometimes speak in terms that are not immediately accessible to all members of the audience. This will often be perceived as unnecessary complexity in the unacclimated. But when you have opened yourself up to such art, you will be rewarded as a listener, I believe. Some may never see the need for this, and there is nothing wrong with that either. Which is better? The ultimate answer may lie in how you prefer to listen to music or what you are expecting from it. This can only be answered by the subjective individual.

I love both, but if you're talking about lifestyle, definitely Mozart. Beethoven went psycho, and I'm not being light on that. But both are very talented.

WOW! I am not even going to try answering this! Who am I to judge these two wizards of music? Both composers are worthy of the title "genius!" My father always says. "Listen to Mozart to relax, listen to Beethoven to wonder!!!"
