Help... I used to have a regular period then all the sudden I went irregular and have been irregular for several years now. I went to a doctor but he said nothing was wrong... any advice on what to do now?

Periods are funny things. We women say we don't want them, and that they are a pain in the butt... yet when you get your period you give a sigh of relief. Getting your period reassures you that you are NOT pregnant and it tells you that your body is functioning normally.

A lot of things can mess with your cycle. Stress, diet, getting too skinny, getting too fat and even just by hanging out with other girls can mess up your period. When I went to college, I moved in with two girls and my period was messed up for 3 months. Then we all had it at the same time.

At this point, if it freaks you out that much, you should just get on birth control. That will regulate your period. There's really nothing else you can do unless you are okay with living with an unpredictable cycle. Sorry!

My sister had the same thing, sometimes she wouldn't have one for a really long time and her docter said there was nothing wrong. She was worried about getting pregnant and thought she never would. She is now pregnant. It was unplanned because she didn't think she could because of her irregular period, and lack of. She's fine though. If your doc says it's okay, it probably is, but if your still concerned it wouldn't hurt to get a second opinion.

There is not a lot you can do unless you take birth control or get a IUD fitted. Both really good at regulating and lightening the flow. To be honest, I don't think many woman have regular 28 day cycles. I definitely don't, mines is a 32-35 day cycle. It doesn't bother me.

I would recommend you seek a second opinion: immediately. You haven't said how old you are, so the possibility as to whether you might be perimenopausal is not easy to determine.

If you're under the age of 45, you absolutely need to see another doctor as soon as you can.

are you very stressed or lost / put on a lot of weight, these factors usually play around with your cycle, my daughter has same sort of prob, so we put her on the mini pill which keeps them a 28 day cycle, visit your doctor and see if this will help, good luck

Have you recently lost a bunch of weight? Being under weight will cause your periods to go missing. Also you may have PCOS, which could also cause this.

The same thing was happening to me. I'd suggest birth control pills, which is what I did to regulate my period. It works wonders. :)

Get another opinion from a different doctor, if it will make you feel better.
