I think that people who abuse or kill animals are terrible and should definitely be punished to the fullest extent, but it feels like whenever we hear about innocent kids being killed or harmed, no one has much to say but "oh gosh that's horrible, hope that person gets what they deserve"....but you won't see herds of people or special interest groups (like PETA) make a huge deal to make sure justice is served?

It may have to do with the laws seeming kind of lax on animal abusers. It could be that people see animals as being more vulnerable to abuse than children. I think the law will take care of child abusers. I'm not sure the same could be said about animal abusers even today.

There are programs that protect children of abuse. Maybe if more people contributed money to those causes they could make a bigger deal out of that issue. It all starts with the public - including you. Instead of wondering why - sign up for one of those groups and make a difference yourself.

No one likes to see injustice of any kind and if someone speaks for the animals. Great, parents are supose to take care of their kids. Animals have no one to talk for them.

Sadly, it seems society & Hollywood places a higher value on pets than it does our precious children. Good luck. 2D
