As of this week, I am about 9 weeks pregnant. I have been experiencing cramps since the beginning and over the last couple of weeks have resorted to using a heating pad on my stomach. I have kept the temperature at the lowest and it is one of those ones that shut off after a certain amount of time. Is this bad and should I be worried enough to go and see my doctor and let him know.

Your feedback is appreciated!

From what I've read, it seems that using a heating pad directly on the abdomen may be risky only if it is very hot. If you are keeping the setting low and aren't using it for long periods at a time, it should be okay. (And you can use a heating pad safely anywhere else on your body since a heating pad won't raise your entire body's temperature). But I would definitely consult your doctor about it just to be safe.

As for the cramps themselves- that's completely normal (even at 9 weeks!) unless they are very severe. I don't know why people are telling you that they shouldn't be at all painful. I had period-like cramps frequently in early pregnancy - for pretty much the whole first trimester. If they are much worse than period-like cramps, it is best to let your doctor know.

Good luck.

I WOULD NOT DO THIS.
FIRST OF ALL IF YOU ARE HAVING CRAMPS AT 9 WEEKS
PREGNANT, YOU SHOULD BE CHECKED BY A DOCTOR.
POSITION CHANGE,SELF MASSAGE (EFFLEURAGE)
AND A WARM BATH,ARE YOUR BEST BETS.
I WOULD NOT PUT DIRECT HEAT ON THE FETUS.

I have four kids 6 and under, but I am not a doctor. That sounds like a really bad idea to me!! Don't be worried but do Call your Dr. and look into the cramps. Don't use a heating pad unless Dr. says it's OK.

I am also 9 weeks pregnant (with my second). I read every book out there when I was pregnant with my first. I remember reading no heating pads or electric blankets or spas all for the same reason that you don't want to raise your body temperature too high which can harm the baby. I would call your doctor, let him know what you've been doing, and see what he says. Have you had an ultrasound yet? By the way, any cramps your having shouldn't be that bad. I get occasional twinges but there is no pain, just a slight discomfort that goes away quickly. You should also let your doctor know about your cramps. Good luck!

NEVER use a heating pad during pregnancy. Just deal with the cramps. When you use a heating pad you risk the chance of over-heating the growing fetus and causing problems.
Just lay down, drink lots of water (cramping can be caused by dehydration) and call the doctor to get the ok to take some Tylenol.

I personally would not put the pad over my stomach, and don't think it could be that good for the baby. I would sit in a luke warm bath to ease the cramping instead.

My doctor told me not to use a heating pad during pregnancy since it increases your body temperature which can increase your chance of miscarriage.
