In some ways yes, they are both musicals that involve dancing and of course singing. They are both the type of movie that all of a sudden they break out in song. Both set around the 60s. Grease is about finding the person you love no matter what group you are associated with, Hairspray is similar to that but it takes it to the next level while dealing with segregation. I believe they are both very good movies. I hope this helped you

The similarities were:
1)They were both musicals
2) Set in the 60's
3)Dealt with teens and how they related to each other
Other than that no similarities

Not really, beyond being musical set in the early 1960's. Local film reviewers often really have no idea about film, much less what they're talking about...
