start with email, any phone these days will do email, but your have to decide if you mind typing it like a text message with a normal phone keypad, in which case, any phone will do. or do you want a full qwerty keyboard, in which case, you want something like a Palm Treo 750, Blackberry Curve, or any of the Qteks.
Internet - again, it depends on how much use you want, most phones will connect to simple wap pages, but if you want decent Internet capability, you want to look at smart phones. any Symbian phone is a good place to start, the Sony Ericsson's w950 is an amazing phone, the Nokia n95 isn't to shabby either, but the real usability comes in the Windows Mobile devices, the qtek 9100 has a big screen and excellent software, i have one myself, and very usable it is, also has WIFI so you can use your home Internet connection or any hot spots you find when your out and about.
my recommendations would be either a Qtek or the Palm Treo 750 (which is a very good looking phone)
have a look;

hope that helps
p.s. if your serious about a Internet/email phone, steer clear of anything by nokia that isn't in the N series, such as the previously mentioned 6300, they are granny phones, and despite some rather dubious claims, you will be disappointed

I easily have, whether that is not any longer a similar and that is not any longer as relaxing. I ran my cellular telephone bill up because of the fact of it. I advised them to shrink it out because of the fact that is not any longer had to have information superhighway whilst i bypass someplace.
