There's a freaky old story from Burslem in Stoke-On-Trent (England), a few miles from where I live.
Molly leigh was born there in about 1685, and was apparently very, very ugly. She allegedly refused her mothers milk from birth and instead preferred to suckle straight from the cattle. She also supposedly ate crusts of bread from the day she was born!
She had no friends (and both her parents died when she was very young) and was treated badly in the village because of her looks/oddities, and this made her angry. Because she had no friends, she trained a blackbird to be tame to her call and be her companion.
The village parson accused her of rarely attending church, (she probably didn't go because of the way she was treated by the villagers) and because she didn't go to church, the parson declared her a witch.
Apparently, after this, one day when the rector was in the pub, Molly's blackbird appeared there and all the beer turned sour and the customers had rheumatism!
More and more stories were made up about her and she became more and more withdrawn.
Now the weirdness.....
Molly died, of natural causes around 1748 and the same parson buried her in the cemetery. Apparently, the townsfolk were concerned that she might not be dead at all, and one night, with a few drinks down them, went to her house in the woods. When they got there, they saw her, sat in her chair, knitting with her blackbird by her side. They ran, chased by the bird, but managed to capture it, and the parson decided then that her spirit must be quieted.
With the help of some villagers, he opened her grave, drove a stake through her heart, buried her still alive bird with her and moved her tomb to a north-south direction. (an east-west direction is normal for christian burial)
Nobody knows who paid for her tomb, and it is still visible in the graveyard today, and is very east to spot, as it is the only one turning the wrong way.
Legend has it that if you visit her grave on halloween, dance round her grave and sing 'Molly Leigh, Molly Leigh, you can't catch me' her apparition will appear.

I live in a small Welsh ex-mining village where there was a great disaster in 1913 - nearly 500 men died in a huge pit explosion. Half the village was killed.

Our houses are the original terraced Victorian miners cottages that were standing at the time. I beleive they were built in the 1880s

As a result lots of rumours of hauntings.

My house isn't haunted (I don't think - although the touch sensitive lamp in our bedroom does come on on its own sometimes - creepy!) but lots of people around here claim to have ghosts and I used to work in a shop down the road which has really spooky. I had to clean the upstairs flat and it was the creepiest place I've ever been in. It had a really unfriendly feeling to it, I felt the whole time that I was being "watched" and could not wait to get out of the place. Every photo taken up there was covered in "orbs". A psychic said that a little boy had been very cruelly treated up there, dragged down the stairs by his hair and thrown in an understairs cupboard, and it was the stairs where all the creepy activity took place.

A local pyschic lives in the old pit managers house and that is haunted. The pit manager in 1913 was killed in the disaster. She and her family hears footsteps running up the stairs and an old miners' lamp in her kitchen swings violently back and forth for no reason.

Creepy.

I also think our house has a positive energy to it though because 3 months after moving in I got pregnant with my son afer years of fertility problems. I was talking to the sister in law of the previous occupants and she said the same thing happened to them! Years of problems trying to conceive, then they move into this house and within a couple of months she's pregnant (with a baby boy too!) I think there is something very blessed about this house in that case!

My old house we recently moved out of. lol

Quick story: my house was built in 1888. Being old, however, doesn't make it haunted. Not every single old house is haunted. It was a workman's cottage. There used to be a railroad than ran by where there is now a street. With the high rate of accidents, many people moved in and out. As I got older, I experienced new things (I was also growing spiritually). The scariest moment was when I was alone in the house. I heard a little girl crying. (Again, I was alone and there haven't been children in my house for a long time) She had to have been a toddler. It was that sort of "I'm in pain" type scream/crying. Then I heard and older woman go "shhhhh" It was very scary. I used to have people knock on my door or I've seen a couple things as well. It's not as scary, but when I was still learning about it all, it was scary! lol

My house is and a cottage down the road. They are both well known in the area.

There isn't really a story of what happened for my house, just all previous owners had reported seeing/hearing things.

The story of the cottage is a man was hung in the garden shed by another man with whom his wife was having an affair. Then the shed was set on fire to (unsuccessfully) hide the evidence.

And I live relatively near a castle that is haunted. I've never been there and don't know of the story, but a lot of people I know say it is, and it was on Most Haunted lol

There is actually an abondand insane assylum in the town next to mine, on the campus of a county work-house jail. Some people said it was haunted because patients were trated badly and died there. Some friends and I snuck in one night. I didn't see or hear any "ghosts," but it was still one of the scariest places I've ever been! The creepiest part was seeing these old, empty padded cells, some with scratch marks still in them! I'm not sure if it's haunted, but it's terrifiying!

We have a cemetary not far from where I live that has stories (some dating back over 40 years) about strange activities. My hubby & I have taken pictures there at night and had a lot of odd things show up. No one seems to know the origins but it had something to do with a former caretaker that lived on the cemetary grounds. Later it was used by some fools for supposedly satanic rituals. Apparently, they didn't understand the true nature of Satanism and were just a bunch of wanna-bes.

True story!! When my father and Mother died I was out in the backyard cleaning out my Dads bird aviary all the birds were given to a breeder !! I wanted to start raising budgies so I had to clean it up !! My father once told me that the window was screwed shut because he didn't want anyone opening the window and letting his birds out. When I started cleaning and sweeping the dust was to much so I went and got a screw driver to open the window. The screw was really long and had been there for years and it was really stiff and hard to remove. I was unscrewing it and my wrist was getting tired so I stopped and when I let go {this is were it gets weird} the screw screwed itself back in all by itself. I just stood there and watch it go back in. I shock my head not quite believing what I was seeing!! I started to unscrew it again, again my wrist got tired and again I let go and back in it went again !! I know it was my Dad I could feel his presents !! I spoke out loud to him and told him the birds were gone and I needed to do this ,then I called my husband to come see but it wouldn't do it again!! My husband says that weird things happen to me all the time and he's right !! Another time just after I lost my Mom I was sitting on my bed just thinking about her when something or someone touch my face I jumped a mile high off my bed and said out loud don't you ever do that again I can't take it!! It never happened again but I feel the presents of someone in the house not all the time but sometimes!! There are more stories but I think you get the picture !! Even my computer will come on all by itself when I know I turned it OFF!!! If you have a reason why these things are happening you tell me!!

My ex mother in laws house is haunted by a friendly ghost she thinks might be her gran. I saw her on the night my ex and I got engaged...apparently she comes at special times!. I thought it was a real person coming up the stairs but then she turned toward the wall and disappeared. I was so frightened and took my ex downstairs to where his mum was and she said 'Yes, I know all about the ghost, she must have come to congratulate you on your engagement'
I took my ex to the look that night and made him stand outside the door!
