Bush says that the moveon ad was "irritating" to the troops. Do you think they are more irritated by Bush denying them a meager 3.5% pay raise and threatening to veto legislation which would allow service members to be guaranteed a year home between assignments in war zones (http://www.marinecorpstimes.com/news/); failing to fund health benefits for returning soldiers (According to the Bush Administration’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs, his department failed to budget for 77,000 new veterans entering the VA medical system. (Testimony of Secretary of Veterans Affairs before Senate Veterans Affairs Committee, 6/28/05)); failing to provide adequate equipment to soldiers in combat (A Pentagon study suggests 80 percent of Marine fatalities caused by bullet wounds to the torso were likely preventable. (New York Times, 1/6/06) ) . . . I could go on but space is limited. Who REALLY supports our troops?

PNAC Penelope: This is one Marine that would NEVER vote for a draft dodging president that puts our troops in harms way without a plan and proper equipment.

Patriot: I agree, most troops just want to do their jobs and get home alive.

The former and the latter. No one wishes to take a job based on certain known facts about it, and be put in a position that disregards or dismisses their assignment. I have faced cancer and the strong likelihood of dying; so far managed to survive. I've experienced pain at levels that morphine doesn't work, probably because there wasn't enough of it authorized to get the job done. My guess is that any level above what I was allowed would have put my life or the docs medical license in jeopardy.
I assume unanswerable questions are your specialty, but you ask them in an intellectually superior manner. Great education. Nice to know someone has the bucks for your privilege. Are you going into law, maybe medicine? Have fun, because those all nighters strung together get a bit tougher when your reputation is being scrutinized by your superiors and they may not be as intelligent as you, or have some bumps in their armor from struggles that you just read about at the campus library.
If they control your destiny, try and keep it together or you might be back taking courses ( at your expense) that will allow you to teach at a public school.

I think our troops don't get enough credit for what they are doing and what they are trying to accomplish by whatever means it takes. I also think our troops wouldn't have to be going through what our veterans did so long ago it the government had in place safeguards for all our soldiers and civilians who have the courage and brave the people who are out to kill and maim them. Now, not only do our older veterans still not have the benefits and lives they deserve our newest veterans can't even get past what they saw and are not getting any of the mdeical attention and care they really need. Their families are suffering because the man or woman who left them may not come back that same person. That is what is so sad, the children never get back what they so need and deserve, the wives and husbands try to handle the issues but it is so tough. All families are trying to make things work but without help. I really don't feel that it is fair to dishonor what the brave men and women, before, now and in the future, are offering each and everone of us Americans. The chance for Freedom, that is so precious to me and my family.

This is why I have you as one of my contacts. You not only speak the truth, but you speak it from personal experience. There are so many people here who are all gung ho about the war, but have no connections to the armed forces. Their "support" for the troops is just a euphemism hiding the fact that they just want other people's children and spouses over there, risking their lives, so they can live their daily little lives without those annoying interruptions of a war. If that's supporting the troops, then who needs enemies, when you have supporters like that.
Thanks Ken. You're articulate and accurate. It's nice to have something here to balance out the rest of the "22%" of the country, who by the way seem to all be here posting!! ;o)
I'm giving you a star!

Can we take up a donation and send PNAC Penelope over to Iraq to do a one on one survey of each soldier to back up her claim???
Now..to seriously answer the question. My son is in Iraq and we have discussed this. Just as there are many different views here in America, there is just as many in Iraq and each individual soldier has his/her own opinion of how they think things are going. If anything is 'irritating" to the troops, it is the lack of positive reporting by the media for the good things that do happen in Iraq as opposed to the roadside bombs and killings. Before you start pointing fingers at the media and calling them 'liberal' or whatever...you will have to concede that the Media is controlled by what it believes the public wants. As apparent in video games, nightly news, local news, movies, television programs.....America has a propensity for the negative side of life. We fail to focus on the positives that happen here in our own country...why should we expect any different. If you want to change the information that you get from the Media, then stop patronizing the violence!!

Bush is just irritating!! When I was in the service, little was said or written about in the service rags. Opinion was garnered by the officers and if you did not agree you were somewhat ostracized. Today it may be different with communications the way they are. I have to believe that the troops actually hate Bush for what he is doing, but without complaint they will continue to fight for the brotherhood.

PNAC Penelope doesn't know what she is talking about. I served in the Marines for 4 years and there were many Democrats that I served with there.
I am tired of people claiming that they know what the troops think. If you never servd then don't respond. The armed services are just like the nation... they don't have one mind.
The reality is that the majority of the soldiers don't care a wit about politics.

If Bush really cared about the troops he would not be sending some on their 5th tour to Iraq in a war built on lies for his own personal benifits.
I think he should at least apologize to the troops for sending them to risk their lives on a mistake by his part. If there were no WMD there would never have been a war back in 2003 especially since Bin Laden is still out there.

Conservatives shout and scream about supporting the troops and are willing to give them parades and speeches, but when it comes time to really support them when they need help or to give them the basic things that they deserve for their service, then the cons always rip them off and show that they don't really care about our soldiers.
