I have answered a few questions re virginity in Womens Health. Here is an example:
"And just saying so you know..Your hymen has nothing to do with virginity. A virgin is someone who has not had sexual relations with someone else. Period.

Using tampons might tear your hymen but it doesn't always. You can use tampons and not tear but you may stretch it. You can tear or wear your hymen from being active. And you may not know when it happens..there isn't always pain and bleeding.

And you may not have a hymen..some girls are born w/o it or with so little tissue it makes no difference.

Also many women don't bleed the first time they have sex because their hymen was torn or stretched and worn before. This is very common and happens from just living an active day to day life. Including using tampons sometimes."

"Virginity"/The Hymen is just evolutionary baggage like the tonsils or the appendix. It's purposes are no longer needed and some times can become a problem rather than a benefit.

Virginity is a social concept, not a medical one. The state of your hymen has nothing to do with whether you are a virgin or not, unless that is how you choose to define virginity. Since your hymen can wear away through every day activities on it's own, that's why gynecologists cannot tell if you are a virgin or not, unless you have obvious trauma to your vagina. Your hymen doesn't so much break as it just erodes. it can wear away from exercising, dancing, every day activities. It is also somewhat stretchy, so there is no need to actually "break" it unles syou are having problems menstruating. And in that case, a gynecologist would be able to assess that as being the problem, and snip it for you.

it's not confusing simply because you yourself is the only and best person to know if you are virgin or not whether you have or have not bleed on your first time.it doesn't have to be complicated because a lot of guys now accept the girl with who is she and what is she. what is most important is that you are doing it with the person you truly love and who truly loves and respects you.
