four of the five water molecules help by the formula unit of the salt are attached to the copper ion. The fifth water molecule is attached to the sulfate ion, but by a diffrent mechanism. how is the water molecule bonded to a sulfate ion.

Four of the waters of hydration molecules (H20) are coordinated by hydrogen bonds to the sulfate (SO4 -2) anion and one is coordinated to the copper (II) (Cu +2) cation.
