How come the run the waiter crazy then never leave a tip?

OMG i'm 1/2 west indian (i guess that's black) i always order water because i don't drink soda. Sometimes i get fruit juice but not often there's so much added sugar at restaurants. If you drink lots of soda you'll get fat.
I've never in my life left anything lower than 15%. I normally tip 20-30%. My japanese mother is a waitress and it's tough when you work hard and you get bad tips
I wonder what people think about me when I order water. It kinda hurts my feelings if they think this way :-(

FYI I have never made 3 or 4 separate orders, nor do I drink restaurant water and I always tip at least 20%. Also, why not worry about more important things like how to spell simple words such as separate? You should get off your computer and pick up a book. So I guess you have nothing left to do other than come up with another idiotic theory. I'll be ready for that one too. Keep them coming dumb ***!

Good question I don't mind the running but when they barely leave a tip at the end of the meal it's pretty irritating. Now of course that isn't true of all, but I'd say 75% of the black people I serve do not leave a proper tip. Apparently they are just cheap-a$$e$

I understand why you asked the question. It does seem like that is the case. And I, too, have felt the same way you do and thought, "Gosh, am I racist for feeling this way?" Then I went to work at a different restaurant and one of the girls I worked with was black. She REFUSED to wait on black customers because she said they're rude, will run you to death and never leave more than a 10% tip if they leave that much.
I also worked with another black girl that agreed with the "stereotype" and gave me this advice on dealing with the frustration of waiting on them. She said that when you wait on black people know one thing automaticly, they're going to want extra of everything, extra napkins, dressings, bring them a water even if they don't ask for it, etc. She also said that they probably won't use the extra dressing or they may not drink the water but it's there if they want it and you brought it at your convience before they demanded it at an inopportune moment. Basicly her advice was "if they ask for one, bring them two". Now some of you may say that this is just antisipating their needs or being a good server. Well, yes that is true to a certain extent...but, come on. We all know what the asker means here by "running us to death".
This advice has helped me deal with this frustration. I get them everything they need and even some things they don't, but I do it at my time table, I don't let them run me.
Now, before some of you here point the racism finger at me...keep in mind the advice and opinions I am stating here have been passed to me from two women of the African American community. I believe they are well within their rights to speak about their sect of our culture. In other words...Black people have said this about themselves...therefore it must be true. My favorite quote is from the African American poet, Maya Angelou..."If someone says something about themselves, believe them. After all, who knows them better than they do?"

Because they get to order a white person around for once in their life and they have to take advantage of it as much as they can. I'm sorry. That was racist. There are many many great black people but the truth is alot do revel in the idea of bossing around whitey. I think some people are answering this question unfairly. I live in new york and tend to see alot of black people who fits the question askers description. However, when i travel to different parts of the country blacks have very different attitudes from region to region.

You know I have been a server for about 8 yrs and for you to say something like that is just raciest. I mean I have had some one in every race do that to me. Yes it does happen more otfen with them but its no diffrent from the white familys that stiff you. Mexicans do leave the best tips though. Mostly the mexican men..

There are lots of races that don't tip. I know a Lady that is Hispanic and she believes in not tipping because we get our hourly pay. How nice huh.

maybe your guest prefer to drink ice water and to order separately. maybe you are a crappy server and don't consolidate your steps or anticipate your guests' needs. perhaps that is why you are run "crazy" and aren't getting tipped.

You didn't say what age category they are in. It sounds like they are at a age where pranks are fun and the expense is on the other person.

you're ignorance is hanging out...I always order ice water, am white and think you are an idiot....you might get a tip if you weren't racist...
