I have had now 5 uti's since the beginning of March [once i became sexually active] and I'm constantly on antibiotics. I always wipe front to back, pee immediately after any sexual activity, and i drink cranberry juice regularly. Is there any long term treatment i can have that will prevent me from continuously getting them. I have a doctor appt. later today I just was wondering for now.

Hi, having 5 UTIs since March is a lot. You are pretty much having one once a month. I used to get many UTI's when I first started having sex too.
Make sure you finish your antibiotic completely, don't just stop taking it when you feel better. You seem like you are doing the right things, peeing right after sex helps, and so does drinking cranberry juice.
You can also try taking cranberry pills (they are in the health food store/vitamin store), just take one pill a day to help regulate your system.
Make sure you are completely clean after having a bowel movement, during sex, sometimes the man misses, or moves his penis lower than your vagina and any bateria in that area can get pushed into your body. Baby wipes work well, they are sensitive enough to not cause an infection and clean well without leaving you sticky.
Make sure your man is clean as well, any bacteria he has on him will also end up in you.
Your Dr. might put you on a mild antibiotic for three months. This will clean out your body from any bacteria that may not have been killed off completely by previous medication.
My Dr. did this for me, and now I rarely get a UTI. Also ask your Dr for an anti-spasm medication. This causes your bladdar to relax and you don't have that annoying I have to pee every 5 seconds feeling. Your Dr. may also give you a script for an anitbiotic that you only take right after sex. The one pill wipes out any bacteria and prevents you from having a full-blown infection.
I hope you feel better.

Try taking cranberry pills instead of cranberry juice. You can get a higher concentration that way. Take a few pills after sex and keep taking them every few hours for the next day or two (especially before going to sleep). Avoid the cranberry that's loaded with vitamin C. Just get cranberry and take a lot of it.
Uva Ursi is an herb that is supposed to help make the urine slightly antiseptic and discourage UTI's. I've been taking it, but can't really tell if it works. I get mine at Whole Foods.
There is also a product called Cystex (available OTC at drug stores) that contains an "antibacterial". It is good for slowing the progression of a UTI, and also good for preventing one. http://www.dsehealthcaresolutions.com/Pages/CystexAbout
In addition to peeing after sex, make sure you are drinking plenty of water so you'll continue to pee often and keep flushing out your urethra and bladder.
Doctors can prescribe antibiotics that you take preventatively, whenever you have sex. If the natural or OTC methods don't work, it is an option.

Honestly it could be from all the cranberry juice you drink, it has lots of sugar in it when can lead to kidney stones and in-turn, an infection. Try taking the cranberry pills instead. It could also be your contraceptive device. Women who use a diaphragm are more prone to UTIs and some spermicides on condoms can lead to infection as well. As the girl above me pointed out, it could be an STD. Just bring these concerns up with your doctors and they should be able to give you the answers.

In addition to the above comments, I would also recommend drinking water instead of soft drinks/juices. Your cranberry juice intake should be very limited unless you could find one that has no sugar.

Ask doctor for a different antibiotic - the one[s] you used obviously didn't work. Tell him/her that you have had 5 infections in 6 months, and want a different medication.

Are you practicing safe sex, and with the same person? Maybe they have Chlamydia and keep reinfecting you. I would try an std test, have your partner do the same, treat it at the same time, and this will finally stop.
