Ok I failed the driving test but I have a question. On the driving test I had to be able to back into a parking space. My question is, Do people in other states or even towns have to do this, and if so why do you have to be able to do something I always thought was dangerous to do.

If you can't back into a parking space, you shouldn't have a licence anyway,so just work on it and worry about whether others had to do it on their test when you know how to drive.

From the best of my knowledge, all states require parking. Because, as you said, it is dangerous to do IS exactly why you must be able to back in a parking space. Get a friend or two to help you practice. Have them be other cars and you must back in between them. Practice, practice, practice!!!
You really do not want something like this to scare you and keep you from getting your license, do you? You will be so proud of yourself for learning this! I know you can do it. Just practice as hard as you can and it will be nothing but a memory.

Perhaps you didn't hold up traffic as he said but the potential was there if you werent making reasonable progress. I passed my test on the third attempt. I rushed in a little on my first two without having enough lessons. We can take from that that time on the road is the key to being good enough. Some people say that examiners have a quota and to some extent this is unofficially true.If they fail or pass numbers that are outside the usual parameters for a given area they will attract the attention of their seniors. So it can be said you could fail one day and pass the next for identical driving. However,if you are good enough you will give him no opportunity to exercise discretion.

In Michigan they test you to do parallel parking. Is that what you were really asked to do? It takes a bit of practice, so see if you can get someone to help you out. And don't worry about failing the test... you can take it over a dozen times if need be. What's most important is that you always DRIVE SAFELY! Good luck!

Do you mean while parallel parking? That's the way it SHOULD be done. I don't drive, but I've gotten coached by those that I hang out with that drive about parallel parking that way.

yes... in nc you have to parallel park... while this particular application may not be used... backing with precision most certainly is. (besides, how do you get out of a parking space that you pull straight into?)

This is why your car has mirrors. Are you planning on never backing out of someones driveway because it's TOO dangerous. Please practice driving, often and keep Georgia safe.

It's only dangerous if you don't know how to do it properly. It's pretty much a universally required skill for drivers, so they test for it for good reason.

You need to be proficient in all aspects of maneuverability, including backing. You WILL have to back up your car from time to time in the real world, ya know
