In todays world, it's sad that if someone is playing really well that we automatically assume steroids. But I can't help but think that maybe he's on them. I don't put it passed anyone these days. I'm suspicious of everybody.
I understand people have great seasons and career seasons, but this really came out of nowhere. I know there's no such proof, and his name hardly ever comes up in these allegations, but in your opinion, do you think he may be on steroids?
What also makes it more suspicious is that he's been released about 4 times and was about to be released by Tampa. Then someone had an injury so they kept him. All of a sudden he's belting out 40 homers and has a career high 110+ RBI's. Let me remind you he's never had more than 82 RBI's.
The whole thing is just very "convenient". Especially in today's world of baseball.

I don't know, but No one is above the allegation of steroid use anymore. Guilty until proven innocent.

He was just given a chance to play in a market where there is no pressure. He always had good power. I think playing with no pressure is key though. I is ripped, but always has been pretty big. I don't think he is doing anything illegal.
As for Cust, I played against this guy in HS and he was always big and could always hit the ball far. He finally got a chance this year and stepped up to the plate. His minor league power numbers suggest that he would hit for power on the major league level. His fielding is bad, that is why he never got a shot until this year when he got to DH a lot.

how bout Jack Cust?
he's been released by like half a dozen teams for the past 3-4 years and suddenly he put up like 25 home runs this year for the Oakland A's?
They were gonna cut him off before injuries to Mark Kotsay and Mike Piazza in April
do you think he's on steroids?

Just because the guy is having a great season you are assuming he is using steroid come on, give the guy some credit please

uh, pena always had the potential and the power he just cant hit for a high avg
he hit 27 hrs 3 years ago and was also the 10th overall pick in the draft by the rangers
as for cust, look at his minor league numbers. hes basically the mvp in the minors. he can hit jacks

It is humble opinions that cause the most problems on this site. Rather than that humble opinion why don't we talk about absolute fact, and that fact is that it has never been reported that he has tested positive for any of the 53 banned substances contained within the MLB and Players Union drug testing program.

Just because I guy has a break out year doesn't mean he's on the juice. Bad players that use steroid don't suddenly become great players. It just doesn't work that way.

No, although thier is a possibility.
He is a strong young man who can hit the hel* out of the ball. All around he is just a great player and I would be very surprised if he was on HGH.

I don't think so, he's just having a good year. I would hope the testing that the "union" allows is enough. To remove more doubt I wish they would adopt the more stringent testing policy that the NFL uses.

Stuffs way to tested these days and he hasn't gained a whole lotta size. Guy has raw talent and it was gonna come out sooner or later.
