-- My work doesn't allow any downloads without going through the IT department. They won't allow anything not directly related to work to be downloaded. I can't even get yahoo toolbar.... How can I circumvent this and get downloaded software installed on my computer?

There are many valid reasons why your sys admin doesn't allow programs to be downloaded: spyware for one, exceeding network capacity is another, etc.

I strongly suggest that you read your company's employee/security manual; if you don't have one, ask for a copy.

A great way to get fired is to circumvent security.
I don't think a toolbar, stock reports, ebay, or porn is worth it.
Do you?

There are legitimate reasons why your IT department forbids non-work-related downloads.

What are you trying to download and why can't you do it at home?

If it is something you legitimately need (or would find helpful) at work, explain (i.e., justify) that to the IT department.

Trying to "circumvent" your system administrator will only lead to problems -- like a LOST JOB maybe?
