I was thinking about this the other day, and my conclusion was that in the grand scheme of things the human race is ultimately doomed, so what each guy feels through his minutes as opposed to eternity is meaningless, unless of course there is an afterlife, so if it's all predestined there should be no consequences for our actions.,
On the other hand, if it is all prechosen by ourselves (which I've heard some who believe in reincarnation believe) it is done for the purpose of learning a lesson not learned in a previous life. So my answer would have to be- I don't know.
By the way, Miho, I'm glad you have become fortified.

I think everyone has some degree of pain, and luck is a little less evenly distributed.
I don't believe that things are predestined, but I think genetics and your early upbringing can have a profound affect on how your life turns out.
For instance, if you're a guy and because of your genetic background you grow up to be tall and handsome, you're going to end up with more than your share of "luck" in terms of finding someone who will be attracted to you and creating a favorable impression in job interviews, etc.
I do believe that we can make our own luck in certain ways. Take Stephen Hawking for example. Because of his illness, he was never destined to be handsome or athletic, but he focused his attentions on what he does have, which is his powerful intellectual abilities, and has thus become a famous scientist in a world where those two words don't usually go together.

I had all the pain.
Now I have all the luck.
I used to think it was predestined in a way, but i dont think so now. I mean, how could I go from one extreme to the other if it was predetermined?
Yep... Rod Stewart was singing about me as the lucky guy.

I don't understand why no one answered this question yet. It's a tough one I guess and depends on your belief system.
It can go two ways. You come to earth knowing you are never going to be lucky, but then what are your lessons, I wonder.
Or you just need to make better choices in life so you have some luck thrown your way, if there is such a thing as luck.

Destiny is a favorite subject for many authors and film makers. A prayer for Owen Meany is about his destiny to save some children. Hope Floats is about a womans destiny to be with her one true love. But in reality, I believe its all about luck. That's why over 50% of marriages are over before the 25th anniversary. But it is incredibly fun to dream about!!

No, it's all about your attitude toward life.
Some guys have all the luck,
Some guys have all the pain,
Some guys get all the breaks,
Some guys do NOTHING BUT COMPLAIN.
Instead of whining and complaining people need to go out and make their own luck, work for their own breaks, search out their own loves.

No, I think we interact with the rest of the world, and that is what determines our destiny.
Gee, if you believed everything was pre-destined, you could let your kids play on the freeway - hey, if they're not meant to die today, it's SAFE! Does anybody really believe that's true?
