Right now the NHL is in its pre-season and the games do not count. The pre-season is just used to evaluate players and decide who will and will not make the team in the regular season.

Anaheim and Los Angeles begin their regular season play on Friday September 29th in London England while the rest of the league continues to play pre-season games until September 30th. The majority of the league will begin regular season play on October 3rd.

They don't count for regular season standing and statistic however they count heavily on many players trying to make the jump to the NHL. Also lot of veteran players are held out of game or have limited shifts to allow rookie and younger play more of an opportunity to see how and if they can handle larger amounts of ice-time. While they don't matter to casual fans, these game are a good indicator on up and coming talent in your team system. So don't pay attention to the wins and losses so much as how well your teams prospects are performing

Preseason is on now.

Regular season begins the first week of October and then the stats "count". But for those who play or are attempting to secure a roster spot, it all counts.

Happy hockey season!

It is preseason. These games don't count on a score card, but they count to those who are trying to make a final cut to join a team.
