For me reading is therapeutic. It helps me decompress from everyday tensions and challenges. It can be an escape from reality. It is brain food and I have often compared it to seeing a movie in my mind.

Without books, I'd feel a definite void in my life, not to mention less intelligent.

It's something I can't really explain. It's fun, for starters. Reading brings you much deeper into a story than seeing a film does. It makes you feel as if you're actually there. You feel everything that the character feels. You can hear their thoughts. It's more personal, because not only does it depend on the author's description of events and places, but you are forced to fill it in using your own imagination. I just can't get enough of books. Every night, as soon as my kids are asleep, I curl up on the couch and turn the TV off and read until I go to sleep. It's like paradise to me.

It fires my imagination. I love reading period. Its fantasic and if you want to sit back for a few hours unwind and loose your trouble for bit then a book by an autor that you enjoy is perfect.

It's the writing style and how well the character is written I can't read a book if it seems flat, unemotional to me. Take me on a roller coaster of emotions, I love reading Romance/fantasy/urban fantasy/fiction though there is nothing better than a happily ever after... in my opinion that is though definitly not everyones.

I read because it draws out my imagination and takes me away to far off places that are each unique and different. With reading you are put in place of the main character and with help from the author you begin to feel like you're actually that character and that you're living their life. It's an escape from the real world to a fantasy world for me and I relish the thought of turning the next page in all books I read (except school books). : )

It inspires me to use my imagination. Sometimes, when I'm reading a real good book, I can picture everything, and if I set the book down for the night, I keep thinking about it and wondering what's going to happen. Sometimes I feel a connection to the characters in a book like they are real people and I want to call them on the phone and say, "Hey, I'm sorry you have to hide from the government and your dog died. Do you need a shoulder to cry on?" or something like that. I feel reading gets me more involved in the storyline than a television show does because I have to create the images in my mind. I like to draw and sometimes reading inspires me to draw something. Do you have any good book recomendations?

I read because it's a form of entertainment that allows my imagination to work. It's a break from my own reality and a window to someone else's, be they fictional or not. Though, I think a healthy dose of reality is what allows the imagination to manipulate those printed words in to something that serves a purpose in your life.

As Einstein said: "Reading, after a certain age, diverts the mind too much from its creative pursuits. Any man who reads too much and uses his own brain too little falls into lazy habits of thinking. "

I like fantasy books. If you've ever tried reading the Pendragon series by D. J. MacHale, you cannot put the book down no matter how hard you try. If you think the first book is lame, then just read to the Denduron parts. Trust me, it gets better.

Well, some people read it for adventure, I mean why do people whatch movies? Its kind of the same reason as why people read books. Also some people read it for knowledge and things under that line. However, some people just enjoy learning about the pasts of other people, reading adventorous books, getting scared by some books, and things like that. Or some people read for fun.

People who read are more knowledgeable. It is as simple as that. Even if all you read are trashy romance novels, you will find you still learn as you read. You get different perspectives about life, can immerse yourself in situations you would not have a change to experience outside of novels, and expand your vocabulary. And nothing compares to a really good book.

Reading a book, rather than watching a movie, helps you understand words to a fuller extent. You'll learn things that you never even thought of. And I love how long it takes you to read a nice, long book, it adds suspense. That was a rather ignorant thing to ask.
