No one escapes unharmed from a mid-life crisis. Hubby, mom, and kids are all affected, each in their own way. That is also greatly determined who is doing what and how extreme the deeds are. Some people take things very well, some lose their family, job and everything over it.

I think it is equal between the sexes. The problem isn't the stresses, it is how people choose to react to those stresses. I think people use the term midlife crisis to justify their choices in behavior. If you are having mental issues, get off your butt and get help. Allowing yourself to become a victim of these terms will not make the situation get better. If you are having financial issues, get off your butt and do something about it. Most people would rather complain about their situations than act. You can always tells the real character of a person by their actions during stressful times. People with good character will continue forward with a positive attitude, knowing that the situation will eventually pass. People with poor character will choose to become victims, look for others to feel sorry for them, and blame the situation on whoever they can (i.e. the govt, their boss, etc). I am an overworked mom of young, crazy boys. I own a stressful business with my husband. I have no family nearby for help. I have plenty of stress and so does he. However, we do not have the luxury of having a midlife crisis-our kids need to eat and be raised. Grow up people.

It isn't more mental, if you think of it in this particular perspective, when ever you see a commercial or advertisement: "Erase the signs of aging buy this lotion. yad, yada, do you see a "man" in the commercial or are they "mostly women". Everytime you see anything like gagets, to loose the mid section, who do you see "first" trying this gaget out, a man or a woman. at the end of these commercials, who is standing in front the man or the woman with perfect abs and body. Based on this only I ask YOU..is it mental and family stressing? How can a woman that is bombarded with ads that are thrown at her every 35 seconds, that if she had a body like this or a face like that, or no wrinkles.... she would be sooo happy, how happy does a woman have to be to take care of a family, if she had wrinkles? I think your survey has just been given the %'s it needed to find out if its mental, emotional, and if it is family stressing.

I think midlife crisis is more prevalent in men than in women. Also known as the middle age crazies. Men like to see if they've still "got it".

Women who are having a "midlife crises" are usually in their 40's, i'd guess.... women who are in their 40's are at their sexual peak, and i think this has a lot to do with the "crises" you refer to here.
Midlife crises in women is almost always about raging hormones.
