Is the basis for your argument too weak to stand up to the facts I present? Is your hatred for a few politicians so great that you won't look at this article?

Or are you an open minded American that just doesn't understand why we are there? Many times I've given partial answers to the question of why we are there, but YA doesn't provide sufficient space to truly answer it.

My entire blog was created to help answer this, but my current article "Why Iraq is important to the World" attempts to put some of the most pertinent reasons in one article.

To those that refuse to accept my arguments, I ask only that you read them and provide reasonable counter arguments rather than merely spewing hatred with no basis in what I've said. I ask for adult debate rather than childish rants.

Kelly B: Thank you for at least reading a portion before returning to those arguments.

While I've used the "fix our own problems" first argument in the past, I've seen the largesse in which our "poor" live in when compared to even ministers of governments in some parts of the world.

I've seen the effects of children denied the possibility to learn to read for lack of a schoolhouse of mudbrick which costs a few hundred dollars.

NGO's are not the answer. Giving away food is not the answer. Teaching them to read and produce their own food is.

Lisa: Thank you.

Patricia: I've seen your answers before. I take your answer here as a considerable compliment. Adult debate is a good thing. We don't always have to agree.

No, there are no guarantees. And we've set a high bar for success but failure is easy to achieve. Despite what is portrayed in the media, we have seen some considerable successes and if you look at my "Hardened Warriors" series, you can see the generosity and kindness of our Soldiers and Marines.

Afghanistan is one of the fastest growing economy in Asia due to the same kinds of things we're doing in Iraq.

Dionannan: No, it's not spam. I gain neither acclaim nor financially from my blog. My only reward is the hope that the public will learn the truth and the unexpected reward of meeting some fantastic people on 360.

Thank you for your compliments and comments and yes, please come back to the blog as often as you like. Not all of my articles are great but I try to give a daily report on Iraq as well as background on the enemy from time to time.
And I have had the chance to through in some truly inspiring stories of the generosity of our Soldiers and Marines in my "Hardened Warriors" series. (#2 is an extraordinairy account, while the others are amazing.)

Sometimes I publish the works of others and sometimes I put my own work there. Hopefully you can enjoy most of it.

Are you "Spamming"???
Are you practicing your rights of the "First Amendment"?

I know you asked for opened minded Americans' reasonable counter arguments.
That is near impossible.
The American Public is being fed by the Media and their local papers and palpable answers here on YA and many other Blog sites.
I grew up with the Vietnam War and have many friends that served. The atrocities we where fed by the Media pertaining to our troops is very similar to the fodder they are spewing today. (I can not watch them. It is sickening.)
I honor every ones' freedom of speech, but the Media should be held accountable for the truth. The Absolute Truth.

I have family in Iraq and they are very proud of their accomplishments. I get a lot of first hand news.

I enjoyed your blog. Whether it is "spam" or not and plan to return to read all the articles you took your time to post in one place for us all.
Thank you for keeping me and mine safe and free. And thank you for your information.
God Bless you.

Saddam failed to meet the unconditional surrender treaty that was made after the war with Iraq in the '90s. He didn't give inspectors full access and he ordered troops to fire at jets patrolling the no fly zone. The idea that Iraq had WMD and was a state sponsered terrorist isn't new. Al Gore made those claims back when Clinton and Gore ran against George Bush Sr (you can see his speech on youtube). With the removal of a government that was involved with state sponsored terrorism, the hope is to drive a physical wedge between Syria and Iran, which are basically now surrounded by hostile troops. Even the mildest critics said that Saddam could have nuclear weapons in 10 years from 2002, that would be 5 years from now.

I did not want to join yahoo 360 or what ever that was. I believe we are there for oil. I do not mean that in a bad way, although Bush and co should have just said that in the outset instead of all this WMD, anti terrorism, democracy building and the like. The major powers of the world need oil to keep their nation's infrastructure working. 50% of the world's known oil supply will be depleted by 2020 or so. Oil prices will skyrocket after that. Iraq has a huge oil supply that the American government, esp people like Bush and Cheney, would like to secure for transnational oil conglomerates. Furthermore, the entire region is oil rich and they think we need permanent military bases so that we can secure this important region to allow oil to be transported to us safely.

I read most of your blog.

The United States invasion made Iraq susceptible to Al Qaeda and Iranian influence!

American arrogance and verbosity will cause us more harm than good in the world!!

When our people wanted a better way and a better country WE fought for it!

When every last American is fed and clothed and healthy and prosperous then parhaps then we can tell the world collectively ours is the better way!

Until that day we should keep our nose out of other countries business, secure our country's borders, and fix our nation's problems!!

I don't know who you are but this is a very WELL WRITTEN article. I don't agree with all of it but it certainly opens your eyes. Yes terrorism must be contained, religious beliefs should be everyone's right and the oil distributed evenly. ONly problem is there is NO ONE that can promise all that. We HAVE to fight now but in '03 we didn't.!!
