Aerosmith~Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
The BeeGees~Sgt. Pepper's LHCB
The Who~Tommy
Eric Clapton~Tommy (I just couldn't leave him out!)
KISS~KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park (I saw it on TV then bought it on VHS later!)
(So, what do they prefer: KISS or Kiss? I've always gone all caps.)
The Monkees~Head
The Pretty Things~Monster Club
The Beatles~A Hard Day's Night (Well, they played themselves, so maybe this doesn't count.)
Gerry & The Pacemakers~Ferry Cross the Mercy
The Zombies~Bunny Lake Is Missing (They're seen on television but get a listing in the credits.)
Dave Clark Five~Catch Us if You Can aka Having a Wild Weekend
Dave Clark Five~Get Yourself a College Girl
The Standells~Get Yourself a College Girl
Dave Clark (non-singing)~The Being aka Freak aka Easter Sunday aka The Pottsville Horror
Herman's Hermits~When the Boys Meet the Girls
Sam the Sham & The Pharoahs~When the Boys Meet the Girls
Herman's Hermits~Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter
Herman's Hermits~Hold On!
The Mindbenders~To Sir With Love
Circle Jerks~Repo Man
Joey Dee & The Starlighters (with Joe Pesci!)~Hey, Let's Twist!
Joey Dee & The Starlighters~Two Tickets to Paris
Carmine Appice, who leads a demon Heavy Metal band~Black Roses
W.A.S.P. (with Blackie Lawless, who has appeared in a number of films)~The Dungeonmaster
The Crickets (minus Buddy Holly of course)~The Girls on the Beach
The Beach Boys~The Girls on the Beach (which also featured an appearance by Lesley Gore)
Stevie Ray Vaughn (OK, he's not a group, but...)~Back to the Beach

The Girl Can't Help It
The Platters
Little Richard & His Band
Gene Vincent & His Bluecaps

Don't Knock the Rock (Alan Freed starred!)
Bill Haley & The Comets
Applejacks
Little Richard (I just have to list him!)
The Treniers

Rock, Rock, Rock (Alan Freed co-starred)
Chuck Berry
The Johnny Burnette Trio
Jimmy Cavallo & The House Rockers
Frankie Lymon & The Teenagerso
The Flamingos (actually doo wop)
The Moonglows (actually doo wop/R&B)
Cirino & The Bowties

Rock Around the Clock (also with Alan Freed)
Bill Haley & The Comets
The Platters (actually not rock, but...)
Freddie Bell & The Bellboys

Thor (headed by Jon Mikl Thor)
Intercessor: Another Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare (MTM acting/produced)
Murder at the Presidio
Recruits (MTM acting)
Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare aka Edge of Hell (JMT starred, wrote the script and produced this one; the story focuses on a rock band, played by Thor)
Zombie Nightmare ( MTM star of film)
I guess only MATP and RNRN count, but I thought it was worth mentioning that JMT shows up other places.)

I could name a lot more if it was open to singers, either as themselves or in film roles. I can think of so many! Are we talking mainly about performances? A lot of rockers have acted~Meat Loaf and Sting especially.

That actually wouldn't be a good question to ask because there are soooo many who leap into film roles, even if you only count rock/hard rock/etc. After all, Flea is in the Back to the Future trilogy. How about Ozzy and Gene Simmons in Trick or Treat?!

Probably even before your parents were born, the first rock'n roll movie ever made featured Bill Haley and The Comets. Their big hit song was Rock Around the Clock and that was the name of the movie.

I had totaly forgot about ZZ Top playing in Back to the Future 3.

Kiss played the music for the end of Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey, but they didn't perform on camera. They just performed the music for it.
