This man was actually genuinely enthused about his campaign and party. Why did Dems let this cheer destroy their candidate, what a sad thing. Too bad.

It really wasn't that bad but his opponents, of course, made a big deal out of it. That was way back before the public started to wise up to the tactics used on the right. They will do anything and everything but the truth to discredit someone. His Democratic opponents rode the wave of criticism instead of defending one of their own. So we got a weenie running and our weenie lost to the most corrupt and incompetent man to hold the office of president. Now Dean is head of the DNC and his lesson was well learned. I doubt it will be repeated. The GOP will realize that what comes around goes around.

Simple. The yell was exemplary of the fact that this guy is emotionally out of control and most likely not to behave very presidentially. As is turns out, that was exactly the case.

Howard Dean, for instance, has said he would repeal the Bush tax cuts -- even though this would boost the average family’s tax burden by nearly $2,000.
He is in favor of a UN based an International Tax Organization (ITO) that would have the power to interfere with national tax policies.

Dean's tax-raising promiscuity - he raised taxes on nearly everything, including gasoline, real estate, corporations, individual incomes, tobacco and items subject to the state sales tax - led to an annual tax increase of $2,350 on the average Vermont household from 1990 to 2001 (even after taking population growth and inflation into account). Dean thus qualified for the nation's second worst record on taxes during the 1990s. State spending rose so much more quickly than family incomes during Dean's tenure that the average Vermont taxpayer had to work two additional weeks each year just to pay for the spending.

So you see, the primal yell was more than a primal yell.

From what I have heard, people at the event did not think the 'yell' was inappropriate or particularly 'insane sounding'. People were yelling, cheering, and things were generally very loud, and his yell was part of the general energy of the event.

However, the recording has picked up using a directional microphone, which filtered out all of the crowd noise, and made the 'yell' sound really nuts. It is akin to a comment taken out of context.

I think Dean would have been a good choice for president (certainly better than Kerry).

It was just a media ploy bought and paid for by the right. In the complete context it was not so obvious but when the y dropped out all the other sound and it was all you could hear it sounded pretty stupid. In full sound most everyone didn't even hear it. Games and manufactured reality, what else are elections anyway, there are really only the interests of the very rich being represented by both parties, they just say there are two for entertainment purposes and to make people think that we are a democracy.

Of course it wasn't that bad. The Republicans were looking for anything to discredit the Democrats so they could win. The Democrats have no guts anymore and didn't do anything to combat this attack. If only we could have had another chance. If only Bush had gone after Bin Laden instead of Saddam because of oil. I am afraid it is to late to dream. We are going down the drain. I heard the flush when Bush won his second term.

You know, at least he was animated and enthused about running. When he was passed over I got bored quickly with the Democratic offerings in 2004.

Just a bunch of pundits and nit-pickers wanting the democratic leader out of the presidential race, causing his ratings to substantially slip.

His was the most believeable, sincere campaign of all of the candidates. He should have been chosen instead of John Kerry to fight King George.

I actually think Chris Dodd would be the best chairman of the DNC.
But I agree, Dean's scream was mild. But why didn't he fight back? Why did he so quickly and passively accept his fate?

The media destroyed him because of that scream, the media discredited him calling him a loon for that action instead of his ideas.
