Tips On How To Get Down the Freebird Solo. (real guitar, not GH)?

Any tips.. those bends on the 18th fret (2nd string) are literaly ripping my fingers to shreads.. :(

Remember, on that recording, there were at least two guitarists who played those solos. If you listen closely, you can hear them trading off from time to time.
