Hi angel baby.
Sure, I like a compliment now & then; it can cheer me up.
As far as the people I know are concerned, I know they are being sincere if they give me a compliment. I am quite good at sensing that someone is being manipulative.
There have been people who are manipulative in that way. They tend to throw compliments at me far too often; so, I know it's not sincere.
It doesn't always mean that they want something, not literally. It can mean that they are insecure and feel the only way to get my "love" is to keep complimenting me. I tell them that it is not necessary, that I will like them even if they do not compliment me.
I like people for who they are, not for what they can do for me.
Magno said "they want something, they ask. They don't, they don't ask." That's not always true.
I have known people who have wanted things, but would not come right out and ask for it. They hint at what they want and manipulate. I do not appreciate that; and I do not respond to it.
I can tell when someone is hinting that they want something. I will purposely ignore it or wait until they come right out and ask for it. Don't get me wrong — I will help anyone who needs help. However, I must also retain a sense of self-worth & self-respect.
People who know me have, inevitably, had a conversation about people who do that sort of behavior. For example, my sister-in-law was complaining about her sister hinting to her all the time when she wants something. She told me how much she hates that. I agreed with her & told her I understood.
One year later, she did the same thing to me!!! I could not believe it. Here she hates being treated that way, and now she was treating me the same way. When I did not respond to the hinting, she became angry at me, wrongfully so. Even if she had asked me, I could not have done what she wanted (buy her a new car). But to manipulate someone & hint at what you want is very rude.
Anyway, compliments meant to get me into a position where I do something for the person do not work. I will help anyone I can, to the extent that I am able. I do not need to be complimented in order to get my help.
Other than that, I do enjoy sincere compliments. It is often a way of letting a person know that you notice something about them.
The more people that you know & the older you get, the easier it becomes to tell the difference between sincerity & manipulation.
Peace.

I can tell if it's the truth or just want something by the way they say it and the tone of their voice.

The truth or just want something by the way they say it and the tone of their voice. And you must ask several questions from him, to confirm the situtation.

Everyone likes a compliment.
If someone wants something from me, all they have to do is ask. If it's mine to give it's theirs.
