Haven't you heard? He's a geenyus! Guuuh!
As a more practical matter, firing the man who won the previous World Series isn't the best public relations move. Luckily, that distinction passes on in about six weeks.

The cardinals would like to keep larussa for nex year because he is a great manager, but Tony larussa is not coming back to st louis next year, he is moving on, he got what he wanted a world series ring and he wants to be out os St louis after this year.
The Oakland A's would probably welcome him back after the 2008 season.

i could be very shocked if the Cardinals provide LaRussa a settlement extension. He had that very unfavorable embarrassing DUI incident only beforehand of the season and his group has only approximately crashed and burned over the final 2 weeks. i think of he's run his direction in St. Louis and could not get a sparkling settlement.

3rd best manager of all time, best in team history, and in spite of all the quirks, distractions and injuries had them within a half a game of first place earlier this month. They've been to the playoffs 7 of his 11 seasons and the players and owners respect him.
How many managers, especially ones that won a World Series just a year ago, could you say all that?
P.S. He and Sparky are the only ones to win titles in both leagues :)
