One of the meaning of "tramp" is someone who travels a lot by foot. So, I think that a "tramp for God" may mean someone who goes along, searching for the poor and helping them.

the reason you're confused is because tramp has more than one meaning. a tramp for God would be someone who does without to help poor people, like a missionary. but the other meaning is a woman of loose morals and doesn't have anything to do with or for God.

I don't see how "a tramp for God" could be any of these. It doesn't make sense.
Good luck.
tramp -
1. One who travels aimlessly about on foot, doing odd jobs or begging for a living; a vagrant.
2. A prostitute.
3. A person regarded as promiscuous.
4. to tread or walk with a firm, heavy, resounding step.

As far as i was aware, a tramp was a stereotypical homeless person. I guess the meaning must differ in different places.Unless the author means she is homeless and poor for God?
I'd put it down to regional differences.

Tramp is also, in song, another word for marching. Example:
The song, "Tramp, Tramp, Tramp the boys are marching." It could mean, marching for God. I don't think it in any way refers to anyone being a tramp or bad person for God.

In Britain, "tramp" is used as "hobo" is used in the U.S.. There is no doubt that the meaning here is "march". The song "That's why the Lady is a Tramp", popularized by Ella Fitzgerald, gives yet another meaning - unfashionable.

To me, a tramp sounds like she would dress and act like she's easy.
