If it's so NORMAL and even HEALTHY, why don't they let you do it on your work computer?
Many companies are allowing their employees to take a 1 and 1/2 hour lunch time so they can workout on company supplied treadmills. Another new trend is 'nap rooms', where instead of an unhealthy smoke/coffee break, they allow employees to nap or siesta for 15 mins (aka power nap) Excercising and eating and napping are NORMAL and HEALTHY. So how come no porn at work.... isn't it NORMAL and HEALTHY?

Dr. Steve, I am totally offended by people who sweat profusly during excercise... foul! Also, people who snore and choke during their sleep are also offensive! However I can agree that those two are NORMAL and HEALTHY behaviors (well , not the choking part)

No, it's neither normal nor healthy. It's extremely destructive in ways most folks don't realize.

How it could be labled as healthy is beyond me! Their was a time when a person had to go through the humiliation of walking into a store and buying that magazine or movie and most people chose NOT to do it. Now it is easier then ever to get your "hands" on porn and I feel that it is a distraction to the live person you could be touching if you were'nt taking the easy way to climax! NOW viewing it at work just seems absolutely re"dick"ulous :) I mean can't ya wait a few hours until ya get home,? GeeeeZ!

Viewing porn on your own time is fine. Do what you got to do.
At work, it is not a good idea or normal behavior. By most company standards, looking at porn at work is considered disruptive behavior and counter-productive. The first reason is if there are women at the work place, they would find it offensive, the second reason is if your boss sees you whacking off at your desk, I'm pretty sure your job is not going to be there tomorrow. The third reason is in some localities, it is illegal to view porn. My advice to you is to keep your porn viewing activities limited to your home.

I for one do not think it is at all normal or healthy. I certainly do not think it is appropriate for work! I think it is very sad today that a female would post this question. You must be in your early 20's or even younger. You have never had to fight the battles the women who came before you did, just to work, let alone be taken seriously at a job. Porn is degrading and it objectifies women ( at it's best - at it's worst it is humiliating and violent and glorifies rape and abuse )
There have been many studies about the effects of porn on men's behavior towards women and it isn't a pretty picture. Not to mention I do not think I should have to come to work and have a picture of a vulva or naked breasts in my face.

Is it normal? probably, Is it healthy? maybe...at least more so than getting it on in the broom closet. Is it politically correct to do while at work? not likely.
Porn can become an addiction....taking away from time on the Job, and causing relationship problems.
I am unaware of any scientific evidence that says that the human brain needs Porn as a stimuli to function better. Where as exercise and /or power naps do actally increase productivity and decision making skills.
Last, some perv would be getting his jollies at work, then shake the hand of a co-worker and/or client and...well thats just nasty.

Viewing pornography is completely normal, but what is healthy about it? Nothing. It is just a pleasurable thing for men and woman. It is not allowed at work because they are strictly inappropriate for the workplace. That is just like saying two co-workers can get completely naked and have sex with each other in front of everybody, do you think that's appropriate for the workplace? No.

first of all there is a huge difference between those really less extreme activities and porn. porn is normal but in a more private sense. it is normal to watch porn or even discuss about in publice but only if you choose to do this where the atmophere permits these sorts of discussions. as for the work place, it's gonna be so distracting. you'll be spending more time watching porn than focusing on your work. that's why even though watching porn is considered normal to a certain extent, there are still limits as to where or what sorts of environments should be watched in. but hey, if you a good private space in your own home, why not just watch it there? it's a lot more intimate and more enjoyable that way.

You see, eating, napping, and exercising are normal and healthy ... but they are also basic needs.
Viewing porn isn't a basic need, nor is it necessary for proper functioning at the workplace. Therefore, it isn't allowed. Anyways, the computers are meant for buisiness use only. Not for personal use. Though porn may be percieved as healthy and normal, it isn't business.

It is not healthy and let me tell you why. Porn causes the brain to release chemicals that cause a euphoric state ( ie get you excited), the problem is over time you need more and more of this chemical to actually fell anything, causing you to need more and more porn. Before you know it you are watching porn all the time just to get your fix. You lose all sense time, family, friends, work and so on. It is called an addiction. It can cost you everything, your family, job and who knows what else. You do not need porn to make your sex better. If your sex is not good now it wont be better with porn. Let me tell you, if you want to have good sex, forget the porn and forget stimulating your wife/girlfriend 's private parts and start stimulating her brain. The female brain is the biggest sex organ. Please her brain and the pleasing of her private parts will just happen automatically. It takes a while to get passed this addiction but it can be done. I urge you start now, today...give up the porn, you'll be glad you did.

I think it's normal to look at porn, just as long as it does'nt interefer with every day obligations. (Now!) to look at it while at work, (to me) would show an obsession with it;, that the person can't seem to perform an every day job, without the thoughts of porn being on their mind. I don't think a person should view pornagraphy on the company computers. Most companies have ways of finding out,if the computers are used for personal browsing, (such as playing games.)
NORMAL IF NOT AN OBSESSION
HEALTHY IN A FORM OF MIND STIMULATION

what a terrible arguement. There are plenty of normal healthy things you can not do at work. like have sex or masturbate.
one of the reasons is because internet porn is offensive to some bra burning feminists and possibly some others as well. therefor they can not allow it in the work place much like practicing religion. another reason is the internet porn contributes to many computer viruses, spyware and other stuff which could harm company security.
