Because with OJ it was the black guy's fault... the news seems to like it that way.

From Wikipedia -

At Jena High School, students of different races seldom sat together. Black students traditionally sat on bleachers near the auditorium, while white students sat under a large shade tree, referred to as the "white tree", in the center of the school courtyard.

During a school assembly on August 31, 2006, a black male freshman student asked permission from the principal to sit in the shade of the "white tree." According to the recounting of events given by U.S. Attorney Donald Washington, the question was posed in a "jocular fashion." The principal told the students they could "sit wherever they wanted." The freshman and his friends then sat under the tree.

The following morning, three nooses were discovered hanging from the tree. Jena's principal learned that three white students were responsible and recommended expulsion. The board of education overruled his recommendation, to which Superintendent Roy Breithaupt agreed. The punishment was reduced to three days of in-school suspension. The school superintendent was quoted as saying, "Adolescents play pranks. I don't think it was a threat against anybody."

If a noose in the yard of a segregated school is not a threat - I don't know what is.

The law cannot legislate "moods" or "feelings" but I can tell you that if I were black and had to go to that school I would not be happy one bit.

Sometimes I am flat-out embarrassed to be a white person in the south.

Because none of the Jena Six, nor the black girl in West Virginia, is in the NFL Hall Of Fame, an accomplished actor, and already acquitted in a very public murder trial.

"Celebrities doing bad things" is always big news to the media.

Because the Jena six are guilty. They put that kid on life support and then claim they arent being treated equally. Yeah, a one on one fight between two kids and both got suspended, police called, taken no further, vs a group of 6 kids beating down on one kid till his lung collapsed and his spleen ruptured. But the kids think its unfair because they aren't just getting suspended either and citing their race as the reason.

It's seriously annoying that people are using race as a means to justify being let off attempted murder charges. They seriously hurt that kid, way beyond a simple fight, it was exactly what they were charged with, attempted Murder.

They aren't being charged with that because they are black, they are being charged with it because they nearly killed someone.

#1: Because OJ was a famous football player

#2: He was already involved in a hugely publicated trial in which he was acquited

#3: OJ's case is gossip, the other cases are hard depressing facts as true and real as they may be and gossip just sells better.

I was hoping it was just CNN, and changed the channel. This crime has too many angles that don't add up. We should write Anderson Cooper and ask him to do a follow up on the Girl from West Va.

Because people want to talk about that, including you. You are giving him extra publicity simply by posting this question, along with many others.

Because so many people want to talk about him for some stupid reason, it attracts a lot of attention, sells a lot of advertising and makes people rich while real stories of substance and cultural relevance get ignored.

Because he's a celebrity and because he got away with murder (if you believe he did it, and most news channels believe he did) . So they are interested in seeing if he'll get put away for long enough to make up for the time he missed for the murders.

Because fame sells. Why do you think we see so much Britney or Paris in the news? On top of that, O.J. has gotten away with murder in the past so all eyes are on him.
