I think it does, if only for the Psyche of the Red sox, i mean, Losing a 14.5 game Lead is bad, but honestly i think the worst part is they would be losing it to the Yankees.... I think they need to win the division, if only for the team and Fans own Sanity

I dont agree abotu the Home field thing... every team can win on the road in the playoffs in baseball. Homefield has meant nothing the last 5 or so championships. I think the ONLY homefield Matchup that matters in all the playoffs this year is if the Yankees haveta go to Anaheim to Play the Angels... thats not real good for the Yankees LMAO, but thats about it.

it would be bad for their physche if they lose the division after having a double digit lead and it would give the yankees more confidence going into the post season.that's the last thing the bosox want to do.

Boston's magic extensive type is 13, i advise with sixteen video games to bypass meaning if the crimson sox bypass 8-8 (against all .500 or under communities as nicely the yankees which isnt going to take place) then the yankees might ought to bypass 11-5. in all probability, neither of those are going to take place. Secondly, there is not any longer a tiebreaker between the crimson sox and the yankees if one team has the wild card, its merely whoever had the tying checklist first (this befell in 2005 whilst the crimson sox and yankees the two had a similar checklist however the yankees had their ninety 5 wins earlier the crimson sox had theirs so for this reason the yankees won the branch because of the fact the sox already had the wildcard).

Yes, it does!! Especially to Red Sox Nation!! They may say it dont but, that is only becuase they know what is about to happen!!!
New York has won the last what 13 division titles?? (I could look it up but, oh well) Boston has had the lead since the 1st week of the season and losing a 14.5 game lead would definetly be in their heads!
Not to mention the winner of this division will have home field throughout the playoffs and be able to pick their 7 or 8 day ALDS playoff schedule!

Go Yanks!!

The big issue is home field advantage. If you win the division and play another division winner the team with the better won/lost record will have home field advantage. If you go as a wild card you will not have home field advantage even if your won/lost record is better than a division winner. MLB players are professionals and although issues involving psyche and sanity are fun to speculate on I really believe it is a non issue come playoff time.

It matters for the reason you stated in addition to having home field advantage. The Red Sux are 27 games over .500 at home. Momentum in the playoffs is also a huge factor and they have none right now so it will be tough for them to get some going if they cough up the division.

Sure, you'll be getting the momentum of winning somethign the yankees didn't win. You've got GREAT fans- they reply quick to all red sox questions, unlike the angels fans for some reason

If you are a Red Sox fan, it does. They will be in the playoffs either way.

I don't think it would effect their psyche because that can be turned around in one inning but I do think it matters if it helps them get home field advantage.
