I do not like chemical drain cleaners. If a drain is clogged I use a tool called a snake and clean it out. The reason is I have had too many bad experiences when the caustic chemicals have failed to work and now I was stuck with a pipe full of dangerous chemicals that I had to deal with as well.

Drains should not clog very often. If you have a drain that keeps getting clogged, try to find out if it is something you are dumping down the drain that is causing the problem or if the plumbing is defective.

I made myself what looks like a cane from a piece of medium circumfrance wire and I stick it in the drain about every six weeks and pull out the gunk and just rinse with hot water and a little suds and it's clean. Years ago we used to use products all the time and it ate a hole thru the metal. "Liquid Plumber" is the best.

If toilets clog it's because someone's using too much of the double-ply...try switching to single ply. Or maybe a toothbrush or something is caught in there that stops things form draining properly. Just use a plunger. If you have further problems with the toilet call a plumber as it may be tree roots, or may be your county's problem to clean out the silt from the larger pipes that your toilet connects to.

There is a gadget you can buy at the hardware store that is screwed on to the end of your hose (Obviously this won't be helpful if you live in a top floor apartment)which you then stick in/down the drain. Turning the water will fill the rubber balloon(sort of like a) part of this thing which will wedge it in the opening of the drain and NO water will leak past it. As the water flows its filling up the space between it and the clog. I've had pipes rattle, shake and otherwise protest till I kind of got scared but then all you hear is a hum from the free flow of water through the pipes and you know its pushed the clog free. Only one stubborn sink refused to drain after one of these "treatments" and it was because the clean outs on the roof had leaves etc in them. When we took our gadget up on the roof and shoved it down all the clean outs we have been clog free for years. Ask the hardware guy where the clog cleaner that goes on the end of a hose is if you can't find it. If he says he don't know hes a idot and you should tell him so. lol

Here is a non chemical way that has worked well for me------1 cup of vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda, turn off the water valve and let the water recede, pour in the vinegar alone, then add the baking soda. Do not add baking soda to vinegar outside of the toilet bowl or it will foam and run over the container!! So mix it in the toilet bowl itself and let it foam away the clog. Good luck!

Check for the unclogging products in the super market. Find out which brand is selling faster. Pick that product and use it.

Vinegar is good, so is baking soda (see above).
You will almost certainly resolve the problem very quickly using washing soda - available from most hardware stores.

Just pour some into the affected drain and swill with hot water.

Use crystal Drano. but, don't go by instructions. leave it in the sink drain for a long time then run cold water in it and it usually gets the clog ot the house may smell bad for a while but, it has worked for me and no plumber had to be called.
