Is it easier to have a war without a draft? Well those who join the military do so for a reason and are trained properly. I would imagine that if someone was drafted and didn't want to be then they could make it harder on themselves. As for if I was drafted out I still support war.. I completely support Operation Iraqi Freedom and yes if I was drafted I would still support it. As for the soldiers really have no choice. Are you talking about those who signed up or those who may be drafted? Your confusing in your question. Being American you have certain freedoms.. If those same freedoms are threatened you'd have to be a fool to not want to protect them. And if you think that these freedoms are not so great... I can name quite a few countries people can move to and be like sheep and told how to live and think.

Having a war without a draft can be both good or bad. It means that the guys over there don't get as much of a break - the media portrays them as blood thirsty because it's not like we're sending the kid next door, we're sending only people who want to be soldiers. And when there is a draft, Americans sometimes make a fuss, saying they don't want their kids going over there, as if anybody WANTS their kids in harm's way... so really there's no winning situation. We just pray for the guys who are over there, and respect and thank them for making this country a great and safe place to live in.

my guess is you are young and have not served in the military. I served and I fought (Beirut 1983) once you have taken the oath it does not matter whether you support the war or not. You took the oath and in that oath you swore you obey the orders given by superior officers and the Commander in Cheif. Nearly every single man or woman who has taken that oath took it seriously. The military is not a democracy, it only defends it. I followed my orders and even though I assisted in the killing of people I didnt even know, I do not feel shame or regret (other than the fact that it is sad when the world comes to the point where others are forced to give orders that may mean death for someone). I did what I was supposed to do and I did it without hesitation. and I would do so again if necessary. I know we hear about fighting for our freedom but do we really know what that means. Our forefathers did it for us over 200 years ago. pray that we never have to fight on our own soil. pray we get someone in the whitehouse that will build our military back up. and contrary to what you may have been told peace does not come by using words. Peace comes thru superior firepower. in another words if they dont fear you ythey will never respect you (now I dont mean for that to occur on the playground) but look at how many countries think we are a joke. anyway pray for our troops and think long and hard about what they are doing, then ask yourself if you could do that.

There is not draft in the US. Speculation is irrelevant. When we last had a draft and a war, the military had no choice. If you didn't run to Canada, but served, you went where the military sent you.

Yes, it's right whether or not little old CVQ3842 is there fighting, safe at home, or up a tree.
Reading many of the posts here, though, I do wonder if the rest of us are worthy of our military's brave and selfless sacrifices.
I'm beginning to think the problem is not with what our soldiers are fighting for over there, but whether we over here are making sure this country is worth fighting for.
Sad, but true.

Why did you join up then i have served my country in several dangerous theater's of war and would do so again if asked our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are hero,s each and every one of them they are asked to make a sacrifice and they do so without grumbling. ithink that the majority of our troops would enlist even if it meant goin to iraq, etc etc

Yes
And the soldiers now had a choice when they enlisted. Most only did it because they thought they would get a free ride through college. Now they have to pay the debt. oops.

No, because if they need to draft a 42 year old man, I don't like our chances.
