I am from NC. In the south we tend to say ma'am a lot. Just curious to know if other regions around the US use this term also.

Thanks!

It was used on me in New Mexico the first time back in 1996 or so. It was cute but made me think, AmI getting old?
Yes, I guess I am a ma'am now so it is ok with me.I could be called worst names.

Hey there! I am also from NC. I lived there for 32 years, but we recently moved to Alabama due to my husband's job. Just as I am sure you suspected, "ma'am" is used quite frequently in Alabama as well. : ) We have been living here for a year, and once again we are being transferred to Phoenix, so I will have to get back to you on how much "ma'am" is used in Arizona.
