Are you looking for bars/night clubs? Martini Ranch is a club in Scottsdale that has live bands pretty often. It is my favorite club in Scottsdale, much better than like E4 or Devil's Martini.
Martini Ranch is located on 7295 E Stetson Drive in Scottsdale (SE corner of Camelback and Scottsdale Road)

the ones listed here already are definitely good places but if you don't mind a 10 or 15 minute drive its worth your while to go to Tempe, there are many more places where you will find live music there, taking a walk down mill ave in downtown Tempe will result in you happen across easily a dozen nice little bars with bands playing inside, asking around while down there will produce plenty more locations, there is a huge music scene in the valley.

Have lived right here in Phoenix from 1992. I too moved from Calif myself. I as quickly as lived in backyard Grove, New Port sea coast, and others.
