Depends what side of the fence you're on apparently -
If you're a con dissent is treason and sedition
If you're anyone else they have a right to say it.
So the answer must be cons aren't good for american politics.

Dissent is essential when it serves the betterment of the people. However, we have a government that is conditioned to dissent for political gain, partisan politics, and contrariness. This type of dissent serves no greater good and is subsequently damaging to Democracy because is a misrepresentation of the genuine interests of the people.
If our "Democracy" had a little less selfish ambition and greed in the politicians, a little more integrity, and a genuine desire to govern the land for the betterment of its citizenry, then I would say that dissent would be essential.
Anymore, dissent is an arbitrary reaction rather than a purposeful effort to make things better.

Dissent is the BASIS, the very purpose, of American politics!
America was formed so that we could be free to dissent - as the colonies were not free to do under the rule of King George.

Absolutely! Dissent has existed in America since before its inception. That is what has kept our democracy strong. Without dissent we might as well have a dictatorship.

Peaceful dissent is necessary. Without countering opinions, you no longer have politics (politics implies multiple idealogies)

It depends...on who is dissenting and how they are doing it.
The Democrats take their complaints to the main stream media. They should be taking complaints about things like the war, to the President. Griping about everything and anything serves no good purpose and helps the enemy.

No. Dissent is a threat to freedom and those who fail to comply should be deported to France.

Dissent is healthy, anarchy is not.
As long as it's done lawfully, it's great.
