As always, test this in a inconspicuous place to see if your carpet is able to stand up to it. Using a cotton ball, soak the nail polish in nail polish remover and immediately cover the spot with a twice folded paper towel. The goal is to dissolve and absorb as much of the nail polish as possible, again make sure your carpet will not melt from the solvent.

Do not move the cotton ball around or you may spread the color. Once you have removed all of the nail polish you can you may still have some red pigment left behind. This will probably come out with a good stain remover or if all else fails bleach.

I agree with Jacob W. My two year old thought it'd be fun to pour half of my dark red polish on the couch and carpet while I was in the other room. I used non-acetone nail polish remover and a q-tip and blotted it out. I then soaked it up with an old rag and repeated several times. It got the most of it out. Then I put some carpet stain remover over top of that while it was still wet, waited like 10 minutes and shampooed the whole area. It worked pretty good for me and I have light green carpet.

I spilled red polish on a new white carpet about a year ago.

I used oxyclean (mixed with water) and blotted up the stain. It took me about 20 mins of patience, but it did come out!

Good luck!
