Get a dedicated "Slide scanner" or "Film scanner"

I have a little beaut that scanns at a true optical 2700x2700 dpi, that's good enough to see thegrain in the old slides.

Plenty of photo shops stock em now.

There are slide scanners you can purchase but it is probably not cost effective for a one time use. There may also be an attachment for a regular scanner.

The best thing would be to to have them converted by a company that specializes in the service and will scan them to a CD.

You can get scanners that have an attachment, or basically a guide that allows you to scan both negatives, and slides. I have an Epson scanner that came with such an attachment and with settings to allow such scanning, and it wasn't very expensive.

Have you tried putting paper behind the slide so that when you scan the slide it you don't get a transparent image?
I haven't tried it but it wouldn't hurt if you did.
Good luck!
