I have seen many different answers and points. As an old-time feminist (for MANY years!), feminism was ALWAYS about equal opportunity - in career, politics, business, finance, etc.
There are always going to be crazies out there and haters out there (of all stripes). Seems to me that we should be looking to the original definition of feminism and not what some crazies make up.

Feminism is women wanting to be judged by their talents and abilities, not their looks or bra size. It is expecting equal pay for equal work and equal opportunities. Feminists don't want to be talked down to just because they're women or to be told they can't do something simply because they're female.
Feminism isn't man-hating or man-bashing. It is also not expecting preferential treatment just for being female.

Feminism isn't only about Women having equal Rights, Politically, Socially and Economically, but it also involves the fight against Violence and Abuse towards Women. Like all Parties that have a voice, there will always be oppositions, and those alike, that will devalue such a movement. As they say, "one bad apple spoils the whole bunch." In every Movement or Party there will always be someone or a group of People throwing out the movement/party when they speak radically, maliciously and mis-represent themself on behalf of the Movement/Party.

It's sad and pathetic that the fight for Equality can be misconstrued in so many ways. When all it is, is Women wanting to be valued the same as Men. To have the same Rights as Men and to be RESPECTED in the same way as Men. But to no avail. Just by reading some of the things in this Forum, proves to Me as to why some People would ride the coat tails of the opposition and why the NEED for such a Movement is NECESSARY in Today's modern World.

My version of feminism is luckythirteens'.

I worked with a man who was one of the most active feminists I have seen. He had a son and a daughter - he said to me once: how could I, as a loving parent, want any less in life for my daughter than I do for my son.

Please note how many thumbs down the reasonable answers are getting.

Terrorism is an ideology that seeks to apply violence to redress a complaint by utilising harming innocents to boot as 'perpetrators'. Feminism is an ideology which seeks to alter society to a greater equivalent one. i'm blind to feminists who've blown themselves up, killing others, with the intention to further their reason. till it particularly is shown that feminists are prepared to kill themselves, and others, for his or her ideology, then they only are comparable in specific aspects a) the two seek for political substitute b)the two see a complaint that they experience desires to be redressed c) the two can use 'worry' approaches to income what they desire yet what those 'worry approaches' are is diverse for terrorism and feminism.

Feminism promotes the idea that women are valuable human beings, not objects. Further, feminine traits are valuable to all humans as masculine traits are valuable to all humans.

The problems of humanity aren't men and aren't women, they are caused by individuals making decisions which result in undesirable outcomes.

I feel that feminism is about equal opportunity in business life but also in ALL aspects of life. It's about a woman's health, a woman's self worth (most women NEED a man to be happy), domestic abuse......it's about the woman knowing she is equal to men and demanding that she be treated that way in her business and personal life.

It started as a way for women to get equal opportunities. Once that was achieved, the group became obsolete, so they ended up being taken over by a bunch of socialist hate-mongers who are actually bent on pushing women down, while blaming it on men. It's hurt relationships a lot.

It's disgraceful, but most women these days are smart enough to see through them.

The misconceptions lie in the fact that ideally feminism is for equality and all things good for women. Unfortunately, the feminist movement was taken over and is controlled by a bunch of hate-mongers. It's very unfortunate.

The same thing happened to the environmental movement.

My beliefs in feminism are very young, but I believe it is fighting for the equality of women in all aspects of life. I don't think it is about hate because everyone deserves the chance at equality, no matter race, religion, and yes, even gender. It is a shame that most young women in this day and age are too busy acting the part males want them to, to realize that we are setting ourselves so many steps back from what the original feminists were fighting for.
